I'm Helen & I'm an Accredited Integrative Psychotherapist & Counsellor. I know that it takes a huge amount of courage to seek out counselling. I recognise that & will provide an authentic, non judgemental approach to exploring whatever it is you might bring to therapy. An integrated approach means I draw on a number of specific therapies that can treat each client in a variety of situations, rather than having a single approach. I believe a therapeutic relationship & trust are of key importance in therapy work & have a down to earth, but highly compassionate approach, often taking a trauma informed approach to counselling.

There are times in life you can feel that you need some help. Maybe you are finding it hard to cope with the day-to-day, struggling to deal with something from your past; or you are looking to live a more fulfilled life. Whatever your need is, having someone to talk to, who is separate from your friends and/or family, can be just what is needed. This is where therapy can help.

Hello, I am a Consultant Clinical Psychologist, CAT Therapist and Coach. I am passionate about working with people in the way that they find most helpful. We can all find ourselves at a point in our lives when things are not how we’d like them to be. We can be caught up in negative patterns, experience difficult symptoms (such as struggling with sleep or anxiety, feeling low or stressed) and have difficulties with our relationships, work or our health. We may have experienced something traumatic or stressful that we struggle to cope with or find ourselves caught up in a negative situation that we don’t seem to be able to escape.

Would you like to take your therapy or supervision outdoors?…. I offer therapy to adults and young people (14 +) I specialise in outdoor psychotherapy. I have found that taking therapy into outdoor natural environments enriches the counselling experience. It spurs deeper, creative ways of thinking and our movement through the landscape allows people to feel unstuck while confronting their problems. Taking therapy outdoors is an option for everyone regardless of fitness and ability. In line with my clinical specialism in echo-psychotherapy I also offer supervision outdoors and welcome therapists and pastoral practitioners.

You may feel stuck in painful relationship patterns; repeating conflicts, struggling with trust, or feeling emotionally disconnected. Perhaps past trauma shapes how you see yourself or relate to others, leaving you anxious, shut down, or overwhelmed. You may want to break free from these cycles, build healthier relationships, or process difficult memories. Whether you’re looking to strengthen your relationship, heal from past wounds, or better understand yourself, you want a therapist who offers practical strategies, deep insight, and a supportive space for lasting change.

Whether you're are feeling stuck in life, experiencing anxiety or depression or perhaps struggling with relationship issues that can't be resolved, the good news is that these are common issues that counselling can help with. I use the three main proven approaches used within counselling - psychodynamic, person-centred (sometimes referred to as humanistic) and cognitive-behavioural as well as EMDR therapy to treat trauma. This gives you more choice and, in turn, creates the flexibility to move towards your personal goals.

Divorce Counsellors

How does therapy for people affected by a divorce work?

Individuals may feel a number of emotions following a divorce, such as shock, guilt, grief, anger, and fear. Therapists offer a non-judgmental space for individuals to talk about what they’ve experienced and process their emotions. Therapists will help clients develop coping strategies. They can also help a client rebuild their sense of self and self-worth and talk about what a happier future might look like.

What’s the most common type of therapy following a divorce?

There are several types of therapy that may be useful for divorce, including cognitive behavioural, acceptance and commitment, solution-focused brief, and mindfulness-based therapies. Many therapy types are talk-therapy based, which is typically the most popular option for individuals dealing with divorce. Cognitive behavioural therapy is a widely-used talk therapy, however, there’s no specific therapy type that’s designed to help people with divorce, and different types will work depending on the person.

When should an individual seek help due to a divorce?

When the feelings of a divorced individual, or an individual going through the process of divorce, begin to disrupt healthy daily functioning, it may be a good time to look into therapy. If a person finds that they are not performing at work due to problems with anxiety or motivation, if they’re no longer seeing friends due to feelings of shame, or if they’re not properly taking care of themselves as a result of depression, speaking to a professional could help.

How do you encourage someone to go to therapy due to a divorce?

It’s helpful to express concern and love for the individual while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Sharing how the individual appears to be suffering, and what effects it has on them or on their children, should be done with compassion and empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
