I can help if you are dealing with low self-esteem, mood instability,
relationship
issues, emotional abuse, domestic violence, childhood neglect, social isolation, depression, trauma or anxiety.
People seek therapy for various reasons and I know how difficult that first step can feel. I also feel convinced that healing and recovery from even extreme forms of suffering is possible, in a fundamentally safe space with boundaries and willingness to treat the person as equal; with dignity, respect and acceptance. My key motivation as a counsellor is to see people flourish and live life to the full. I have cherished the experience of working with people from diverse populations & spiritual backgrounds. I aim to step into the shoes of my client, understand their feelings & perspectives and use the knowledge to guide our actions.

Are you struggling with a pattern of behaviour or a
relationship
that you know is harmful, but you can’t seem to move on, or change things for the better? Through working with you in a safe, accepting way I can help you gain a fresh perspective on what has been troubling you. Building on this, we can work together to help you make positive, lasting changes to your behaviour and state of mind. Due to my previous career, I specialise in helping with the issues that can arise from the demands of high-pressure work in both business and creative settings.

I will offer you the time, privacy and support required to explore aspects of your life you may feel you need to understand better or areas in which you would like to grow. Somewhere impartial and unconnected with your everyday life and as someone with who you can share thoughts and feelings. I work in an Integrative Counselling approach which has the basic assumptions that we are naturally social beings with the ability and wish to relate externally to others and internally to ourselves. Due to the significance of relationships in this approach, the therapeutic
relationship
between us will be central to the process of Counselling.

I am an empathetic, approachable and genuine integrative counsellor, with a firm belief in empowering clients, supporting them to achieve growth and healing via a trusting therapeutic
relationship
that takes into account social context.
People seek therapy for different reasons. You may be feeling low, depressed, anxious or stressed; or perhaps you just have the feeling that things are not quite right. It might be that the distress is such that you cannot function at all. These could be recent feelings or you may have been experiencing them for years. In any case, counselling or psychotherapy can help you make sense of things, explore different options or make changes. Some of these issues can be sorted after a few sessions; in other instances, a more long-term approach will be needed.

I work online with adult autistic individuals & with
couples
in the UK. I provide an accessible & compassionate service that reduces distress & enables people to address what is difficult. If we have not been understood and accepted we may develop ways of being and doing that do not support our well being. We keep our true selves hidden from others and whilst this protects us, it can cause much pain and limit us. With an understanding therapist we can trust, we begin to make sense of who we are, how we are and what has happened to us in our lives. We can be truer to ourselves and live with more confidence, ease and acceptance.

I therefore place great importance on developing a trusting
relationship
to enable you to discuss and explore the difficulties you are having.
Do you find that despite your very best efforts to cope with difficult thoughts and feelings such as anxiety, depression and/or anger, your difficulties are still holding you back? Do you find that your ways of coping can make things worse in the long-term? You may be finding that your relationships with others are suffering as a result, and you might be finding it difficult to talk to friends and family about your difficulties. Are you struggling to find a way to move forward? Do you feel like you’ve lost touch with what’s important to you, and lost your sense of direction in life?

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
