Counselling for Teens and Adolescents in Sheffield

Would you like to take your therapy or supervision outdoors?…. I offer therapy to adults and young people (14 +) I specialise in outdoor psychotherapy. I have found that taking therapy into outdoor natural environments enriches the counselling experience. It spurs deeper, creative ways of thinking and our movement through the landscape allows people to feel unstuck while confronting their problems. Taking therapy outdoors is an option for everyone regardless of fitness and ability. In line with my clinical specialism in echo-psychotherapy I also offer supervision outdoors and welcome therapists and pastoral practitioners.

Hi, I’m Rachel, a MNCPS Acc. Integrative Therapist. Finding a therapist who truly gets you shouldn't feel like another exhausting task on your to-do list. I work compassionately with all issues and I specialise in working 1:1 with neurodiverse adults and children and supporting parents of neurodiverse children. This specialism is built on a foundation of both professional training and my own lived experience of neurodiversity. I understand the unique rhythm of a neurodivergent life—the unseen effort of masking, the overwhelm of sensory processing and the struggle to fit into systems that weren't designed for you.

Hello everyone - I'm Hannah and I am an art psychotherapist. Within therapy I aim to create a safe and healing environment to support clients move from surviving to truly living. Sometimes finding the right words to communicate can be really hard so we will use art as an aid for communication. You don't have to be 'good' at art to do art therapy - if you enjoy being creative in any way, shape or foam - You might find art therapy is the right fit for you. I would love the honour of working with you to support your healing journey. I look forward to hearing from you

Creative Counselling
Counsellor, MBACP
Do you struggle with issues such as anger, anxiety, depression, self esteem, self harm, or relationship issues? Are you feeling stuck in your life and find it difficult to take a step forward? Have you experienced trauma such as bullying, sexual abuse, domestic violence, or bereavement, and would like to see how this may be impacting on your life and relationships today? Maybe you tried talking therapies before but seem to be getting nowhere. Creative counselling has the potential to heal you on a much deeper level, leading to long lasting change. Feelings can be accessed, and healed through the power of metaphor and symbols.

I have had over 20 years experience, prior to becoming a therapist, helping disadvantaged teenagers and young people who had left the care system, experienced serious trauma or had been homeless.
Hi Thanks for looking at my profile... I will tell you a little about how I work. I believe that helpful therapy starts from co-creating an authentic relationship. I won't bombard you with jargon or too much detail here, but I feel it's important to say that I strive to offer you a safe, calm and nurturing space where you can just 'be'. Maybe you're not sure what you're feeling or why. You may have lots of narrative, or may not be able to find any accurate words for what you are going through. There's no 'right' way to be in therapy. I offer complete acceptance of whatever you bring. I work with adults and with children over eleven

Hi, I'm Emma, an integrative, person centred psychotherapist. Coming from a background in peri-nataI mental health I'm passionate about working with themes connected to the family such as birth trauma, generational trauma, childhood trauma, attachment issues, low self esteem, late autism/ADHD diagnosis, fertility issues and baby loss. This involves working with mind and body to rediscover a sense of your true authentic self, to find understanding and identify patterns of behaviour or obstacles preventing you from being the best version of yourself. Collaboratively this could result in an acceptance of self and deeper connections.

I work with neurodivergent individuals and those who feel they don’t quite fit in. Many come to therapy feeling overwhelmed, burnt out, or exhausted from masking and trying to meet expectations that don’t suit them. They may struggle with anxiety, low self-worth, or feeling misunderstood. I support adults and young people across the UK through online therapy, including those with ADHD, autism, or exploring whether they may be neurodivergent.

Clients coming to see me have usually lost confidence in themselves-some have never had it. They want to feel more positive about their current situation and have a hopeful outlook for the future. Low mood and anxiety can arise for many reasons-sometimes we need to go back into earlier experiences to find out the cause. For others there has been a significant loss-of employment-or the death of a person close to them. All these things trigger a sense of insecurity and struggling to manage we can develop unhelpful behaviours -maybe we drink or eat too much or hurt ourselves in other ways. Counselling helps us find healthier options

Psychologist, GMBPsS
I am a Neurodivergent Developmental Psychologist specialising in ADHD/ASC working with pre/ teenagers and adults who are looking to develop a better understanding of how to manage and work towards overcoming their challenges.
Sessions feel welcoming, validating and free to talk without judgement. I understand how as an adult/parent we can become ‘stuck’ in unhelpful patterns of behaviours and talking about them in sessions can feel exposing and raw. I offer parent sessions to deep dive into issues at home and school. I also write to schools/college/work/etc with recommendations.

FAQ - Teenage and Adolescent Therapists
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.

How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.

How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.

How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
