I use person centred, attachment focused therapy, elements of CBT and art and play therapy to enable the most suitable therapy to meet the clients needs within a safe and empathetic space.
If you are feeling like things are getting you down and preventing you leading your life the way you would like to, perhaps you may feel anxious or depressed and feel you have lost your self-esteem and belief in yourself, this could be through difficult life events like stress, relationship, bereavement or something that happened to you in the past. Taking back control of your life and living the way you want to can be helped with therapy to gain a more positive happier future.

I have been working in this field for over twenty years now and I still have a determined passion for it. I am trusted to hear the life narratives and difficulties of those seeking support and my aim is to help you feel heard and empowered. I have never lost sight of this aim. I have worked with people who have felt very isolated by their own thoughts, felt intense shame, and struggled to cope with overwhelming feelings. Usually they have not felt able to talk to those around them for fear of judgment, embarrassment or rejection. I feel privileged to have been trusted by my clients which enables me to help lessen their burden.

I am an integrative Counsellor, qualified to Masters level and I specialise in Relationship and Family work. I am a big believer in meeting people where they are presently at and holding a judgement free, safe space for them to explore their thoughts and feelings. To give someone the space to find out what is going on for them, at their own pace, I believe to be very empowering. I am warm, friendly and empathic and have a real passion for helping people. Contacting me via email is usually the best option, as I can not always take calls due to being in client sessions. I respond to emails usually the same day.

Hi, I'm Tracey, I specialise in psychological therapy for women. I understand that, as a woman, there are many unique challenges and life transitions to face. Relationship difficulties, work challenges, pregnancy and motherhood, perimenopause and menopause, bereavements, traumas, the list can seem endless. When you're struggling, having a safe space to reflect on what's happening for you, to connect with the emotional impacts, and discover how you can learn to adapt is vital. It lets you build your sense of strength and resilience and ultimately, it encourages you to heal and continue to grow despite what life has thrown your way.

I appreciate that it can feel difficult in asking for help and to put trust in someone you have never met, especially with often upsetting and difficult issues. It can feel like we may have somehow failed or its a last resort in trying to resolve difficulties. I have helped many people like yourself, who also felt unsure initially on what to expect and feelings of trepidation or embarrassment in asking for help. I believe that the therapeutic relationship between counsellor and client is all important to be effective in addressing the issues and helping you to make the changes that you want and to get things back on track.

Being CBT trained, I can help you to identify unhelpful thoughts, patterns and behaviours and we can work on strategies to better manage the emotional impact of these thoughts.
When was the last time that you checked in with yourself? We can be there to support our loved ones and just get on with the day to day but sometimes forget to look after ourselves. We can feel lost, overwhelmed, scared or angry at the curveballs that life throws at us. As a person-centred therapist, I know how important it is to feel comfortable and accepted in counselling sessions. We can build up trust together and so empower you to explore difficult feelings and find a way forward. I’m happy to work in a shorter-term solution focussed way or explore deeper issues, which have been troubling you for a while, over the longer term.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors

How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?

Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario catastrophising or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
