Hello, My ideal client has tried everything but still feels stuck. Therapy, books, positivity—nothing works. The problem isn't in their head. They feel it in their body—heaviness, fatigue, anxiety. They experience anxiety from nowhere, repeating patterns, living someone else's life, and unexplained physical symptoms. Something was lost along the way. They want results, not sympathy. Real change, not endless talking. Freedom, not staying stuck. They need to release what's holding them, feel lighter and clearer, and finally live instead of survive. They're ready for deeper work that addresses the root—not just symptoms.

Many people struggle with mental health difficulties at different times in their lives and can feel like it’s hard to make sense of this, and my goal is to help people to understand and improve their mental health. I'm a qualified Senior Clinical Psychologist and Cognitive Analytic Therapist (CAT). I love using CAT and Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT) to help people gain an understanding of the way they relate to themselves and those around them and why they may struggle with this at times, and to help them to learn how to make changes to these patterns and find alternate ways of approaching different situations.

A strong, trusting relationship is, I believe, what makes therapy, therapeutic. Part of my role is to offer the conditions; empathy, acceptance and genuineness which are at the root of cultivating therapeutic alliance. By offering these conditions, I will meet you as a whole person and remain open and curious to what you feel you want to bring to the session. I do not perceive myself as the expert of your life, you are. I will encounter you in the sessions, holding my understanding that you are of inherent worth and value.

Many of my clients appear to be coping on the outside but feel anxious, low, or stuck underneath. They may struggle with overthinking, people-pleasing, self-doubt, or a harsh inner critic. Often these patterns developed in response to difficult or overwhelming experiences. I help them understand why they feel this way, make sense of their patterns, and begin to shift them so they can feel more confident, grounded, and in control.

You feel like you’re always “too much” or “not enough.” You overthink everything, and every time there's a conflict you think people are going to leave you, therefore you struggle to set boundaries and tend to people-please. You want to be able to maintain relationships without the fear of being rejected or abandoned, without idealising others or without losing yourself in the same old patterns. Deep down, you just want to be accepted for who you are, you want to feel chosen and that you are a priority on someone else's life, and to feel emotionally safe.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
