I specialise in supporting men and dads who feel overwhelmed by work stress, relationship challenges, anxiety, depression or past trauma - especially dads struggling to connect with their teenagers. Many feel stuck, isolated and exhausted by expectations to 'man up', but are ready to become the father, partner, and man they truly want to be. I also work with young people aged 12-25 navigating anxiety, depression, family conflict, identity questions, school pressures, and major life transitions. As a male counsellor with specialist training in adolescent mental health, I offer practical tools, genuine understanding, and a safe space

I am an integrative therapist. I am also an accredited BWRT practitioner which is my preferred way to work because, simply, it is the most effective. I have seen many clients who have had years of therapy, and say that BWRT has finally worked for them. Interested? Get in touch.

Whether you have a specific issue you know you want to sort out, or a general uneasy sense of something "not quite right", I offer you the time, space and support you feel you want. Sessions may involve a gentle "person centred" exploration, or more challenging and deeper work. The best style of therapy for you will become apparent when we first talk and your first session will give you the best opportunity to decide on how you would like to proceed and whether I am a suitable counsellor for YOU.

There comes a moment - sometimes slowly, sometimes all at once - when we realise something needs attention. A feeling, a pattern, a memory that won’t stay quiet. Counselling is a place where we can listen closely to what’s going on beneath the noise. It’s not about ‘saying the right thing’ - it’s about being together with what’s true, in a space that allows you to breathe a little deeper. Some people come with much to say, others bring silence or nudges that don’t yet make sense. It’s all welcome. For those who feel drawn to it, I also offer therapeutic songwriting sessions.

I work as an integrative therapist with a core foundational training in person-centred therapy. I provide a safe, confidential and trauma informed space to help explore what to do with this ‘one wild and precious life’. What can help with this is providing counselling in natural, outdoor settings. For this we can utilise the quiet and spacious grounds of Dartington Hall for ecotherapy. I believe that any healing is closely connected to nature. Being outdoors can help to feel less confined and more free to explore thoughts and process emotions.

Sometimes life no longer makes sense. Old ways of coping don't work. You and your relationships seem stuck in a loop. If you are at that point, therapy can help you reconnect with yourself and begin to understand what's really going on beneath the surface. I work in an integrative way, drawing on whatever approach suits you best. At heart, it's about creating a space where you can feel safe enough to explore what hurts and what helps.

People sometimes think counselling is only for those who have experienced severe trauma. It’s not. My clients don’t always know the cause of their discomfort. They just know that something isn’t quite right. I’m a firm believer that everyone can benefit from counselling. My clients come to me for a variety of reasons. Some want counselling to recover from childhood trauma, domestic abuse or physical violence. Others feel isolated, alone and unheard. Perhaps you’ve experienced bullying, low self-esteem or suicidal thoughts. Many of my clients don’t really know what’s wrong. They just feel burdened, unhappy or ‘stuck’.

Many people find that pressure gets in the way of performing at their best. In key moments, self-doubt, overthinking, or strong emotions can take over. How we respond to pressure—shaped by self-belief—has a powerful impact on performance and wellbeing. I help individuals and teams build self-belief and develop the psychological skills needed to perform under pressure. Our work focuses on emotional regulation, resilience, decision-making, and mental fitness, supporting you to think clearly and respond effectively when it matters most.

Mindfulness-Based Core Process Psychotherapy is a relational and embodied enquiry in which we can together explore how it is that you ‘do’ you. I offer a setting of compassion, acceptance and non-judgemental listening, and value these qualities in our working relationship. I am interested in what your experience is and, as you can begin to feel understood, in how you might begin to express and experience yourself differently. Having a place to bring yourself, your worries, your issues, can be a relief and can be deeply rewarding as we honour the feelings that move inside you and allow your own innate wisdom to find it's way.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
As a man, why might I want to see a male therapist?
There are many reasons a man might wish to work with a male therapist, including a degree of shared identity, which may help client and therapist connect to each other and allow for a more free-flowing discussion of issues that can be deeply personal. Some men may feel more comfortable talking to a male therapist about relationship concerns, the pressures they feel around the roles society and family place on men, career or job challenges, self-esteem, or anger problems. For some men who have not had a male role models in their lives, a good male therapist may be especially helpful.

How can I find out about a therapist’s experience treating men?
Individuals looking for treatment should feel comfortable directly asking a therapist about their history treating men overall and the issues that arise in therapy with men. A good therapist will be happy to discuss such matters as well as their educational background, approach to treatment, and how they think they can aid a prospective client.

Can clients benefit from having a therapist of the same gender?
Therapy is not gender-specific, but some men as well as women feel more comfortable opening up about their experiences and history with therapists of a specific gender. An individual may feel that they have to explain less background information and be on the same page more quickly, particularly when discussing gender-specific challenges. That said, a good clinician can transcend most if not all gender concerns. Ultimately, the most important factor in therapy is the connection and trust the client is able to build with the practitioner.

Would a male therapist have specific training in treating men?
Generally, no. There are no certifications for treating men specifically, but there are continuing education classes that therapists may take that focus on treating men as a group. There are many therapists who focus on men and male issues in their treatment and therefore have experience and expertise in this domain.
