I work predominantly with clients with complex PTSD, PTSd or PTS and/or neuro-diversity/ADHD/Childhood-Adolescent Developmental Trauma/Military Service or life in general. We can feel psychologically and emotionally dysregulated, unable to control our emotional response / triggers, leaving us feeling angry/anxious/depressed/overwhelmed or shutdown. By helping you to regulate your nervous system, chronic stress activation can be reduced, allowing the mind and the body to think and perceive situations and events differently, which helps us to feel safe and secure. Less reactivity, leads to improved mental health.

TalkMoves, comes from the belief that we all have the potential to grow, to move forward at a pace that is unique to us.Sometimes, however, the path that we are on becomes bumpy and rough, and we find ourselves facing challenges, loss, feelings of uncertainty or a sense of being stuck. Counselling can be a hard and challenging process, it can also be a transformative and fundamentally liberating experience. I have successfully supported individuals through a variety of concerns including relationship/family/work, anxiety, depression, addictions, loss and bereavement. I also have a background of 'Rewind Therapy' for trauma and PTSD.

In therapy we work out what needs to change so you can feel happier in yourself and in your relationships . We find the tools you need to deal with what's happening now and the space to explore your past and what you want for your future. When we don't change what feels wrong it doesn't just go away. Sometimes it feels so difficult or confusing we don't even know where to start. Getting some help is a start.

As a qualified counsellor, I offer a place where you can share the things that you’re struggling with at the moment, where you'll be really heard and where you can feel at ease to be your true self. Talking about your problems can help you find ways to manage what’s going on for you right now and help you to feel better.  It gives you the chance to explore your feelings, understand yourself more and overcome difficulties.   I offer tailored therapy which is as individual as you are and my focus will always be on you and your needs and your wants in each session.

I believe therapy can support us through life’s challenges. As a Humanistic and Integrative Psychotherapist in training I bring compassion and professionalism to my work. I have successfully supported clients with a range of issues such as anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, self-harm, eating disorders and body image issues, addiction, loss and relationship difficulties. There is a lot of mystery surrounding therapy. I strive to be clear, open and real with my clients so, whilst the work may sometimes be challenging, it is always collaborative and they feel safe and respected as they come to better understand their deepest needs.

Hello, I am Laura and welcome to my profile. I do not underestimate the internal challenges you have encountered to start a therapy journey, nor how overwhelming it is to choose the ‘right’ therapist. Especially when identifying your needs and articulating them, can feel at times frustrating or impossible. I would like to reassure you that you are not alone, and I invite you to notice how far you have already come. You may have specific goals in mind, or for now you just know you’re struggling, and things seem more difficult for you than it appears for others, and you would value support. Because very often, life feels hard.

Has your child received an autism diagnosis or are you waiting for an assessment? Are you feeling unsure what to do next and struggling to find support? Is your child experiencing high levels of anxiety, overwhelm, melt downs or challenging behaviour? An autism diagnosis is the beginning. There is so much information but no one to guide you through it all. You do your best everyday but sometimes it just feels like it is not enough. Family and friends try to understand, school try to help but don’t always get it right. You may feel alone, isolated and lonely, unsure who to trust and where to turn.

When life presents challenges, we often have to face fear, deal with crisis and difficult issues. If our normal coping mechanisms are not enough, this is when we can seek additional support and counselling is often the next step. I trained to become a counsellor as I realised how much I appreciate learning about and listening to the unique life stories of each individual. To be able to sit with clients and work collaboratively to help initiate change, is often a humbling experience and a position in which I feel privileged to be in. Life can be overwhelming at times, and we don’t have the head space to process what has gone on or is going on. Sometimes leading to anxieties, worries, depression, self-harm, unhelpful habits, disordered eating, stress and so on. Counselling creates the time and head space to explore and process where and why these issues have arisen. Reducing these unwanted aspects, creates space for balance and better mental wellbeing in life.

I work gently and compassionately, with individuals/couples, struggling with difficult or painful feelings, managing their emotions, and struggling to enjoy life. Communication is often an issue, as are feelings of unfairness or difficulty forming good, lasting relationships. Issues may involve partners, parents, past traumas, or inner conflict making decisions difficult. They may involve issues at work with colleagues, management or relationships. When working with couples the issues are often about unfulfilled expectations, infidelity, lack of commitment/affection, insecurity, lack of empathy, or experiences of coercion or control

To be seen and heard is so powerful. Are you feeling invisible? Being human isn’t easy, our worlds can be affected in so many ways and sometimes you just don’t feel resilient enough to deal with it alone. The past couple of years have been particularly challenging. Have you been left with feelings and difficulties they’ve not experienced before. I have been a therapist since 2014 and after all these years my motivation is still as strong as the day I started. It’s an honour and a privilege to hear your story. My work is to help untangle those inner emotions to understand why you are feeling the way you are right now.

How can I find a therapist in Salisbury?

Search for nearby therapists or counsellors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or postcode; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or postcode into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online or over the phone can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counsellors are all licensed mental health professionals. In many countries, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counsellor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counsellors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counsellor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counselling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
