Counselling can help you to change the way you see the world around you and your place in it. I aim to help you to understand yourself more deeply, to perhaps recognise patterns of behaviour that are maybe unhelpful to yourself. I know what an unnerving experience contacting a counsellor can be: you might feel worried about saying the 'right' things, or about what questions I might ask you. You might be feeling sceptical that anyone can help you at all or be left wondering if your problems are 'bad' enough for therapy. Contacting a counsellor can be the first step to understanding yourself more deeply.

TalkMoves, comes from the belief that we all have the potential to grow, to move forward at a pace that is unique to us.Sometimes, however, the path that we are on becomes bumpy and rough, and we find ourselves facing challenges, loss, feelings of uncertainty or a sense of being stuck. Counselling can be a hard and challenging process, it can also be a transformative and fundamentally liberating experience. I have successfully supported individuals through a variety of concerns including relationship/family/work, anxiety, depression, addictions, loss and bereavement. I also have a background of 'Rewind Therapy' for trauma and PTSD.

I work predominantly with clients with complex PTSD, PTSd or PTS and/or neuro-diversity/ADHD/Childhood-Adolescent Developmental Trauma/Military Service or life in general. We can feel psychologically and emotionally dysregulated, unable to control our emotional response / triggers, leaving us feeling angry/anxious/depressed/overwhelmed or shutdown. By helping you to regulate your nervous system, chronic stress activation can be reduced, allowing the mind and the body to think and perceive situations and events differently, which helps us to feel safe and secure. Less reactivity, leads to improved mental health.

I usually see clients from younger populations, people who have experiences of childhood adversity, identity difficulties, migrations and cultural challenges. I work with with various psychological difficulties with a schema lens and help clients to better understand their unmet needs and connect better with their healthier parts and their vulnerabilities. Understanding the inner child and the ways we can continue to be impacted by our childhood relationships can be quite beneficial and insightful.

My name is Rebecca and I see adults, adolescents and children .
If you are suffering with the loss of a loved one and are finding that there is no where to turn to and no one understands the pain which you are going through I can offer the space and time to listen. When we experience loss things can become overwhelming and having someone who will hold the emotions that feel too much for others can be crucial for moving through the process of grief. If you are struggling with parenting and looking for help to find clarity and understanding, I can help you reflect and identify patterns of behaviour within family dynamics that are causing disfunction and look at how to move forward with compassion.

Child Counsellors

Do I need to attend therapy with my child?

Parents are an integral part of a child’s therapy, but the specifics of their involvement vary. If your child is young, you may attend most or all sessions; if your child is older, you may attend a few sessions or none; sometimes a therapist may ask you to have a session on your own. Whatever the arrangement, you should expect to work collaboratively with the therapist, your child, and your family members to take steps to help support your child.

How long are sessions with child therapists?

Children’s therapy sessions can last 30 minutes, 45 minutes, or 60 minutes. The length of the session may depend on your child’s age and the type of therapy practiced. You can discuss this with therapists you consult and the one you ultimately move forward with.

How do I get a child to agree to seek therapy?

The best approach is to have an open-ended conversation with your child about how they’re doing and what they might be struggling with. When you raise therapy, discuss the concept in an age-appropriate way, for example explaining that a therapist’s job is to help kids handle their hard or uncomfortable feelings. Frame therapy positively, as an opportunity to explore and build emotional skills—it’s an important tool in the toolbox to help kids feel their best.

How can I tell if a therapist is a good fit for my child?

A child needs to feel comfortable opening up about their thoughts and feelings, so if your child feels a sense of comfort, ease, and trust with their therapist, that’s a great sign. In addition, a therapist is a good fit for your child if the two can communicate well together; a clinician should be able to communicate clearly, effectively, and in an age-appropriate manner.
