I work predominantly with clients with complex PTSD, PTSd or PTS and/or neuro-diversity/ADHD/Childhood-
Adolescent
Developmental Trauma/Military Service or life in general. We can feel psychologically and emotionally dysregulated, unable to control our emotional response / triggers, leaving us feeling angry/anxious/depressed/overwhelmed or shutdown. By helping you to regulate your nervous system, chronic stress activation can be reduced, allowing the mind and the body to think and perceive situations and events differently, which helps us to feel safe and secure. Less reactivity, leads to improved mental health.

TalkMoves, comes from the belief that we all have the potential to grow, to move forward at a pace that is unique to us.Sometimes, however, the path that we are on becomes bumpy and rough, and we find ourselves facing challenges, loss, feelings of uncertainty or a sense of being stuck. Counselling can be a hard and challenging process, it can also be a transformative and fundamentally liberating experience. I have successfully supported individuals through a variety of concerns including relationship/family/work, anxiety, depression, addictions, loss and bereavement. I also have a background of 'Rewind Therapy' for trauma and PTSD.

Beginning therapy is a brave and sometimes difficult decision. My approach is to build a trusting relationship where we can work in collaboration with one another. If you're struggling, the most important thing I hope you to feel in my practice is safe, safe to explore your feelings and experiences so that together we can help establish a way forward. Please note that occasional responses to enquiries can land in your email's "junk" or "spam" folder. If you are waiting for a reply, please check there. I aim to respond to all enquiries within three working days.

To be seen and heard is so powerful. Are you feeling invisible? Being human isn’t easy, our worlds can be affected in so many ways and sometimes you just don’t feel resilient enough to deal with it alone. The past couple of years have been particularly challenging. Have you been left with feelings and difficulties they’ve not experienced before. I have been a therapist since 2014 and after all these years my motivation is still as strong as the day I started. It’s an honour and a privilege to hear your story. My work is to help untangle those inner emotions to understand why you are feeling the way you are right now.

In therapy we work out what needs to change so you can feel happier in yourself and in your relationships . We find the tools you need to deal with what's happening now and the space to explore your past and what you want for your future. When we don't change what feels wrong it doesn't just go away. Sometimes it feels so difficult or confusing we don't even know where to start. Getting some help is a start.

Has your child received an autism diagnosis or are you waiting for an assessment? Are you feeling unsure what to do next and struggling to find support? Is your child experiencing high levels of anxiety, overwhelm, melt downs or challenging behaviour? An autism diagnosis is the beginning. There is so much information but no one to guide you through it all. You do your best everyday but sometimes it just feels like it is not enough. Family and friends try to understand, school try to help but don’t always get it right. You may feel alone, isolated and lonely, unsure who to trust and where to turn.

When life presents challenges, we often have to face fear, deal with crisis and difficult issues. If our normal coping mechanisms are not enough, this is when we can seek additional support and counselling is often the next step. I trained to become a counsellor as I realised how much I appreciate learning about and listening to the unique life stories of each individual. To be able to sit with clients and work collaboratively to help initiate change, is often a humbling experience and a position in which I feel privileged to be in. Teen Counsellors
What does therapy for teenagers look like?
When a therapist works with a teenager, the pair will talk about what the teen is struggling with and explore solutions, which may involve interpersonal skills, coping strategies, medication, or lifestyle changes related to sleep, diet, and exercise. Different therapists employ different modalities, but most involve a combination of conversation and skill building.
How long does therapy for teenagers generally take to work?
There’s variability in teenagers’ experiences and challenges; some may begin to improve from therapy within a few weeks while others may take several months or longer. Teens can discuss their progress with their therapist periodically to assess how they’re improving and any changes to the treatment plan that could potentially accelerate that progress.
How do you encourage a teenager to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love while framing therapy as an opportunity to explore a tool that could help improve their life; just like they practice baseball or dance, now they can practice their emotional skills. Give your teen control over the process where you can—maybe by weighing in on choice of therapist and signaling that therapy involves confidentiality, so a parent need not know all that is discussed in sessions.
How do you prepare teens for therapy?
You can prepare your teenager for therapy by describing what the process will look like and setting expectations for timeline, if requested. You can explain that the first session may begin with an assessment phase, that they can describe their experiences but that the therapist will ask questions too, and that it may take time to feel comfortable opening up. Ask how they’re feeling about the process and answer any questions calmly and supportively.
