I work predominantly with clients with complex PTSD, PTSd or PTS and/or neuro-diversity/ ADHD /Childhood-Adolescent Developmental Trauma/Military Service or life in general. We can feel psychologically and emotionally dysregulated, unable to control our emotional response / triggers, leaving us feeling angry/anxious/depressed/overwhelmed or shutdown. By helping you to regulate your nervous system, chronic stress activation can be reduced, allowing the mind and the body to think and perceive situations and events differently, which helps us to feel safe and secure. Less reactivity, leads to improved mental health.

You may be looking for a therapist to address a specific issue, perhaps an experience from the past that is impacting you now, or there may be a general feeling that something is not quite right. Many people find talking with someone, in confidence, helps them discover who they are and helps them make informed, self-loving and kinder choices. Therapy can help you discover the real you, creating awareness, acknowledging and dealing with repressed feelings and getting in touch with your innate self-worth. Which, in turn, promotes personal autonomy and the resilience to deal with life's challenges.

Our early life experiences may impact on the way we form relationships as adults; struggling to connect with others, and we may even struggle to feel a connection with ourselves. Any kind of trauma at a young age, an adverse childhood experience, may end up creating a disconnect between the mind and body and prevent us from living in the present moment. Sometimes leading to the same issues or patterns of behaviour coming up over and over again. Our work will involve engaging with your experiences in a compassionate and curious way. Giving you the space you need to make sense of/begin to understand your lived experience.

"There is a crack in everything - that's how the light gets in" (Leonard Cohen). I love this. We all have problems, things we don't like about ourselves, things we struggle with over and over. It's part of being human, none of us are completely 'sorted'. But sometimes we feel overwhelmed, desperate, alone.... the cracks are too big, the light isn't getting in. Or we feel stuck, frustrated, exhausted, going round in circles, nothing will ever change. Perhaps you feel you can't be the real you. Maybe you feel like this a lot, or maybe it's new for you and your usual coping/support isn't working. Maybe you don't know what's wrong.

I have lived and worked in many different cultures and enjoy working with people from all over the world. I am LGBTQI+ friendly. I encourage clients to work at a comfortable pace and start where they like. When possible I facilitate clients to use their body sensations, memories and images in a creative form of self-discovery called Focusing (Gendlin). I use Brainspotting (Grand) to enable clients to reprocess trauma, anxiety and stuck experiences at the subcortical level. Rather than talk about problems, I work with the neurobiology of the limbic system. This allows people to change habits, overcome fear and enhance their lives.

Anxiety and panic attacks starting to control your life but not sure what is triggering them? Impulsive, disorganised, head scrambled due to ADHD /ASD? Have you been recommended to seek counselling for drug or alcohol and need support around your triggers?  Or do you just have a sense something is wrong but struggle to open up or express how you feel to your partner, family or friends as you feel 'they just don't get you'? The beauty of talking to a counsellor is I am neutral and independent of your situation which can make it easier to open up and explore your feelings and thoughts.

Using industry approved assessments, and a warm, empathetic and thoughtful approach I help people with life long concentration and attention difficulties as well as those who find talking with others draining and confusing work out if ADHD or Autistic Spectrum Condition (Asperger’s Syndrome) makes sense as a useful description for these differences.
What if you knew why you felt different from everyone else? What if you knew why your brain wrecked, your concentration? Job? Relationships? Do you often feel like there was a class on starting, maintaining and ending conversation but you missed it? Do you feel overwhelmed if there is too much noise or too many people talking at once? Or maybe you HAVE to do something and that you cannot just relax and do absolutely nothing? Do you feel physically exhausted but you mind is still racing and will not let you sleep? If this sounds familiar and you are looking to understanding why this happens, then I might be able to help.

My name is Saboor, effective therapy requires a good professional relationship between therapist and client. It can also be a difficult process to start therapy. I, therefore, offer a FREE initial telephone consultation to help us both diagnose if I am the right therapist for you. I am flexible in my treatment, I try to create a space of openness and safety to allow my clients to explore. I work within the humanistic models as well as using techniques from CBT, DBT, PTSD, ADHD , and PHOBIA.

ADHD Counsellors
Some children and adults with ADHD find it difficult to concentrate on tasks at school or work and may daydream frequently. Children with ADHD may become disruptive, defiant, or have trouble getting along with parents, peers, or teachers. Children who struggle with hyperactivity and impulsivity, in particular, often have behavioral challenges that can be difficult for adults to manage. Adults, on the other hand, may be more likely to report feeling restless or fidgety; if they struggle with impulsivity, they may make rash decisions that adversely affect their life. For both children and adults, executive functioning (planning, emotional regulation, and decision-making) is often affected as well. Many children and adults display either hyperactive or inattentive symptoms of ADHD, but it’s also possible for both sets of symptoms to exist together, in what is typically called combined type ADHD.

If you're looking for a Salisbury ADHD counsellor, these professionals provide ADHD therapy and counselling in Salisbury.
