Many of my clients have experienced trauma, PTSD, loss, depression, anxiety, or prolonged stress and often feel stuck, overwhelmed, or emotionally exhausted. Some are coping with the aftermath of major life events, while others face ongoing pressure from military veterans, demanding professional roles, or personal challenges. They often feel disconnected from themselves or others, struggle with confidence, sleep, or concentration, and want to regain control, clarity, and peace. Therapy provides a supportive, collaborative space to explore difficulties, build resilience, develop coping skills, and rebuild a meaningful life.

Wanting to live a happy, purposeful and fulfilled life shouldn't feel like an impossible goal. You have a right to all these things. Even getting this far might have been difficult, but you've taken the first step to trying to make changes, feel better or have a better understanding of the world around you. Working together with you, I can help with all of these things. Everyday life can heap pressures on people and we can find ourselves anxious, worried, depressed or maybe just a niggling feeling that something isn't right. You might feel like this, and that there isn't a way forward, but there is.

Deciding to come to therapy, and choosing a therapist, is an incredibly big decision. Over the years, I have found that a lot of my clients have not always had the best experience with practitioners, and this can cause significant anxiety when deciding to access therapy again. Whether you are coming to therapy for the first time, or you have had therapy before, I respect the care and time that is needed to find the right person for you. It is important for you to feel safe and valued for you to explore what is happening in your life. Please don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to learn a little more about me and my approach.

So often clients' unhelpful experiences of therapy are attributed to their therapist being "silent", "difficult to connect with" or (at worst) "like a brick wall". The psychologically informed, dedicated and authentic experience I deliver requires me to be active, present and, primarily, something resembling an authentic human being whom I hope you will trust and feel at ease with. You will have the time and space to talk (without awkward silences!) and where desired, I can share with you knowledge/theory acquired from 10 years clinical experience, to help us collaboratively explore, enlighten and enhance your lived experience.

I bring compassion, sensitivity and constructive challenge to help you to work out what’s getting in the way of you being all you can be and to rebuild a sense of trust and belief in yourself. We might talk about how the past affects the present and what needs to change.

Are you gripped by anxiety or tired-out because of a low mood and lack of purpose? Or is drink or drugs causing problems in your life? Perhaps you're continually seeking sex or using pornography even when you don't really want to be? Or maybe you just need to be able to talk through what's on your mind without feeling judged, knowing that something isn’t right, even when it’s hard to name exactly what it is.
These are the main reasons men come to me for counselling, working online (UK/international) or in-person (south Manchester).

Having several years' experience working with adults, children and young people, I can offer support to a wide age range. Reaching out for support can be incredibly overwhelming and scary. It’s very important to me to try and make this as simple and accessible as possible. I qualified as a counsellor in 2019 and have worked within mental health for over 10 years, in the charity, private and voluntary sector. Removing barriers to counselling support is very close to my heart and I pride myself on being a down to earth practitioner.

I've been actively practicing as a Therapist for the last 9 years and have always worked with a variety of people from all ages and backgrounds. The youngest being 8 years and the oldest being 84. Many of these clients have lived in different places all over the country. This experience has meant that I have needed to become a different type of Therapist for each client that I work with to ensure that I am able to best support them. This has also meant that I have worked with people for many different reasons and has given me skills to comfortably meet people where they are and work towards their goals in Therapy.

Hi, my name is Gordon. Welcome! I am a full qualified therapist working online and in person from my consulting room in Manchester zone one. Personal therapy helped me to untangle my relationship with myself and my emotions from others. The world alone is a chaotic place to manage our own unknowns, anxieties, and traumas. I understand that everyone experiences the world in different ways, so unique problems require bespoke responses. Our lives are constantly changing, so it’s natural to feel emotions strongly, think differently and respond atypically. I help clients explore all spheres of their life to help build hope and cope

I am a trauma-focused therapist working with adults who are experiencing ongoing emotional difficulties linked to past or recent trauma. Many of the people I work with have tried therapy before and are looking for something that feels more focused and effective.
Alongside my private practice, I work within the NHS as a counsellor and EMDR therapist. My background includes specialist work in domestic abuse services, substance misuse, and sexual trauma, which has shaped a careful, trauma-informed approach to therapy.

LGBTQ+ Counsellors
Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?
Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialised training, either during their degree programme or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.
Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalisation in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.
How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?
You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?
Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.
Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?
While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialised training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
