Bereavement Counselling in Salford
Anxiety, depression, bereavement, relationships, work goals, issues and ways forward - these are just some of the stressors I have helped clients to tackle.
I am a qualified psychotherapist, life coach, trainer and supervisor, with over 20 years experience in private practice. I work with adults who may be encountering life's stressors to a greater-than-usual degree or may be struggling to find their way forward in a diverse range of circumstances. These may be from personal or professional sources but usually involve our own, perhaps not very helpful, habitual ways of dealing with such difficulties - we all can revert to old habits in times of trouble. I am available to do both short- and long-term work according to need.

Palliative care & bereavement.
I am a counsellor and registered general nurse specialising in occupational health, and my priorities have been about the physical and psychological care of my patients and clients. I use the biopsychosocial model to support clients' biological, psychological and social experiences and issues. I listen to why the client feels they need therapy, and we discuss the most appropriate way forward which may include, for example, CBT or solution-focussed therapy. I am welcoming and trustworthy and my approach to clients is irrespective of gender, sexual orientation, race or religious beliefs.

Counselling can be helpful for a variety of different difficulties such as low self-esteem, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, loss and many more.
Having several years' experience working with adults, children and young people, I can offer support to a wide age range from 13+. Reaching out for support can be incredibly overwhelming and scary. It’s very important to me to try and make this as simple and accessible as possible. I qualified as a counsellor in 2019 and have worked within mental health for over 5 years, in the charity and voluntary sector. Removing barriers to counselling support is very close to my heart and I pride myself on being a down to earth practitioner.

Often we turn to therapy when we are faced with problems we can no longer carry alone. No longer feeling at home within ourselves, we feel called to reconnect with who we are. When we experience a ‘ loss of self’, a painful rift emerges within the psyche. We feel severed from meaning, purpose and joy. This loss can be caused by any number of things - relationship issues, challenging life transitions, grief - and can be experienced as any number of symptoms: depression, anxiety, self-destructive behaviours. It can also be caused by the past invading our present in the persistent resurfacing of old psychological wounds and traumas.

As a fully qualified person centered counsellor and BACP member I have experience in working with bereavement, self-esteem issues, depression, anxiety, loss and caregiver burden.
Sometimes, we can feel overwhelmed by life and we don't recognize why we feel the way we do. This can lead to us feeling disconnected with others but also with ourselves. Sometimes the problem is not always clear and by talking things through in a safe space, it can help us understand what is happening. Navigating issues through a therapeutic relationship can empower us to progress in your journey of self-discovery and thrive in life. I can offer you a safe, confidential space for you to feel heard, bring any issues that may be affecting you and your ability to flourish.

I work with people with a broad spectrum of presenting issues, from depression and anxiety to domestic abuse, bereavement, addiction and sexuality.
Although I regularly work with clients of all ages and genders, the majority of my clients tend to be young men, who have unresolved feelings or experiences which are impacting on their daily lives. I work as an integrative counsellor, from a person-centred perspective. This means that you can bring whatever you wish to the session, while we work at your pace and depth. I employ theory and techniques from CBT, psychodynamic and other therapeutic philosophies which I feel may be useful. Where we start is not the important thing as ultimately, you will naturally discover the things that matter the most to you.

I have experience helping clients who suffered from Depression, Anxiety, Complex Grief, Eating disorders, Low Self Esteem, and fertility and maternal mental health issues.
Empathy and validation are the key foundations of my work and I think finding an understanding of a clients perspective helps them in turn to find solutions for peace of mind for and within themselves. Working in this client centred way has been incredibly fulfilling these last few years and having my own practice allows for real freedom to choose how we work together.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
