In my work as an art psychotherapist, I help people who may be struggling with anxiety, trauma, attachment difficulties, self-harm, depression, low self-esteem or questions around identity.
Using materials such as paint, pastels or clay allows feelings to be explored through creativity. You don’t need to be artistic – the focus is simply on expression and understanding. If talking feels easier, that is absolutely welcome too. Art can be used alongside conversation whenever it feels helpful.

I work with women who feel overstretched, unseen, or disconnected from themselves — often after a big life shift like becoming a mum, a relationship change, a loss, or work pressures that finally tip things over. Many come to me carrying anxiety, stress, or a sense of losing who they are. I offer a warm, steady space to slow down, feel supported, and begin making sense of what’s been weighing them down so they can move towards greater clarity, balance, and a life that includes their needs too.

During sessions we may predominantly talk through things, or we may incorporate other forms of expression like art, poetry, or music to access and help to incorporate your emotional and logical self.
I offer support for those who feel squeezed out of traditional spaces or have fallen through the gaps in the system. It's time to reclaim your life. I specialise in working with: LGBTQIA+ adults, neurodivergent adults, eating disorders, supporters/families of above. You may want to come to me to talk about struggles around sexuality, gender or relationships or you may want to talk to me about something else safe in the knowledge that I’m not going to try to pin your struggles down to an aspect of your identity that you’re perfectly comfortable with (as many people have reported with non-queer therapists).

Why do we feel like we do? Maybe anxious? Maybe depressed? Maybe self-critical? Maybe not able to interact with others as we'd like and feeling like our relationships could be better? Maybe just feeling like we could be living a happier more fulfilled and engaged life? The patterns of how we feel now have been laid down in our past. Our feelings and behaviours are all there for a reason - usually in ways that somehow protected earlier versions of ourselves. In therapy we can safely and kindly explore how you are feeling now, where your feelings have come from and how we can approach life differently.

From one human being to another, I am proud of you for seeking out support. It's not easy to admit when we might need some help, or to actively seek it out. It's a really big step. It's not unusual for people to look online for some time before making contact with anyone, or to make contact and then feel it's not the right time. Wherever you are in your journey, you are welcome here. Take your time, you're in control of what happens next, so do things at your own pace.

Life can often rush past us and we can forget about ourselves, who we are, and what it is we want and need, whilst everyone else in our lives comes before we do. You might be realising that you want more from your life and for that to happen, changes need to be made. Maybe you have realised it is something that is not possible for you to do alone, and that working out what boundaries you can put in place is something that you can benefit from. Trying to get through these challenges alone can make us feel overwhelmed and unsure about who we are, and if change is even possible.

How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
