Men's Issues Counselling in Saint Leonards-on-sea
My own story of becoming a Counselling Psychologist involved working through my own life issues, particularly around intense disregulated emotions. It puts me in a position to be able to sit alongside you with your problems, and although everyone is different, empathise with a little more understanding.

If you’re reading this, I’m guessing things aren’t feeling quite ‘right’ in your life at the moment. Perhaps you’re struggling with some difficult thoughts or feelings. Perhaps you’ve hit a fork in the road and you’re unsure which way to go. Perhaps you’re not really sure what ‘it’ is that needs to change. I believe that opening up and sharing your concerns with someone who is trained to listen and respond to you, is the first step in working through them. While counselling can’t remove the challenging experiences that you're facing, it can help to empower you so you can move through them with strength and purpose.

You may find yourself in the company of many yet still experience a profound sense of isolation. A significant portion of your life might be dedicated to conforming to someone else's expectations, leaving you feeling inadequate or disconnected from your authentic self. There may be an underlying sense that something is amiss, even if you cannot precisely identify it, yet you are aware that it does not feel right. The journey toward self-discovery, personal growth, effecting change, and fostering meaningful relationships with others can be daunting and unfamiliar.

Whatever the issues and problems we have to face, one question seems to come up whether we are aware of it or not, which is how much if any control do we have over the way we feel, especially when we feel very powerful or overwhelming emotions. Usually the bad things happen (or are said) when we are out of control and completely in the grip of our feelings of anger, jealousy, fear, lust, greed etc. However trying to remove or erase these feelings, an obvious and often tried solution doesn’t seem to work that well, usually they squirt out and can be even more damaging by being denied and buried.

I have extensive experience working in mental health since 2004. Currently I work as a therapist both in person and online. I work with client´s with specific issues like anxiety and PTSD but also with client who struggle to feel empty as if life lacks moments of happiness or fulfilment. Often it is helpful to understand our current difficulties through exploring past experiences and how they may have impacted upon us. Some people prefer not to think too much about the past, rather focus on managing the day to day. Everyone is different and part of the process is working out what feels most helpful for you.

My Name is Mark. I specialise in helping people overcome and gain recovery from Sex Addiction, and have been doing so since 2009. During this time I have tailored my style of therapy to enable my clients to not only gain as much insight to their own addiction, but also the tools to live a more fulfilling life free of addiction. I still feel sex addiction is a taboo area in today’s society where very few people including general counsellors do not fully understand the severity and impact caused.

Men's Issues Counsellors
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
