I have extensive experience working with male clients presenting with a wide range of issues: anxiety and stress management, depression, trauma recovery, self-esteem and confidence building, relationship issues, life transitions and personal growth, men and male anger, sport psychotherapy.
We are more than what has happened to us, the central question is: 'who do you want to become?' Being able to move from patterns of behaviour rooted in the past, into the way we want to be in the here and now, is a deeply profound and personal journey for us. Drawing from Transactional Analysis, my work involves helping men to recognise the creative ways they adapt to overcome difficult or painful experiences, working with male clients to facilitate change and helping them to re-write their stories. Find out more about me, my way of working and a range of articles I’ve written on my website!

I have been around the block a few times myself - climbed out of my own paralysing depression, dealt with disabling anxiety for the first 22 years of my life too.
Life is tough. The world can be a very harsh and unforgiving place indeed. Above all I work with kindness, acceptance and understanding - successful therapy always depends upon a partnership between you and me, both/all of us working purposefully together to solve the issues that are in your way - let's face it, there is simply not enough of those three qualities around these days. It is never a failure to reach out for help - never. It takes courage. So please reach out: I promise to take your hand, keep you safe, and together we'll walk the path to better days.

Much of my work is with depression, anxiety, phobias, OCD, panic, relationships, trauma, and adult ADHD.
Hi, I hope your search for a therapist is going well. It can be a difficult process, but it is important to find a therapist who feels right for you. The relationship with your therapist is, on average, more helpful than their training and experience. Person-centred therapy is a relationship. It is not dependent on medical diagnoses, yet can help with all conditions. It is well proven to be as effective as other leading therapies, but uniquely it puts the client at the centre of the process. There is no 'you have x or y' or 'you should do this'. The right questions, and answers, will come from within during our conversations.

Art therapy means using art materials ( if you want to ) to look at your feeling and past experiences to help to understand your inner world. This can be extreamly powerful and reveal parts of your self that the client has tryed to forget or has been ignoring for some time. however if you do not want to make art that is ok also.

I work with children and adults struggling with anxiety and depression and feelings of low self-worth.
I believe the demands placed upon us can feel overwhelming at times and ask things of us that we struggle to give. We all have the ability to find an internal space where we can feel safe, make decisions, and embrace what supports us. We are relational by nature and will flourish with the supportive connection of another, someone who 'sees' us. I can be this support for you. My work as a therapist is a privilege and I thoroughly enjoy creatively engaging with children and adults. I also work as a Clinical Supervisor supporting those supporting others, a role that informs my therapeutic practice.

Life can be a challenge and it can sometimes help to explore what we’re going through with someone outside our immediate circle. I have a warm, supportive approach and experience of working with clients dealing with issues such as relationship difficulties, anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, addiction and bereavement. With this support can come clarity, healing and growth. We all experience difficult times in life and can sometimes feel stuck, overwhelmed or lost. It may be that you’re coming to terms with a challenging life event, navigating a time of transition, or generally feeling unsure of the best way forward for you.

Many of my clients feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from the life they want to be living. Some struggle with confidence, anxiety, stress, or unresolved past experiences like bullying or difficult relationships. Others feel lost in their personal or professional lives and need support in making real, lasting changes. They want to feel stronger, more in control, and able to move forward, but they don’t always know how. What they need is practical support and a therapist who truly understands their challenges, someone who can help them gain clarity, build resilience, and create a life that feels more balanced and fulfilling.

Whether you are struggling with physical or/and emotional symptoms; perhaps feeling dissociated, emotionally numb, experiencing anxiety, a deep felt sense of 'what's the point', hopelessness, feeling disconnected, surviving rather than living your life... Perhaps you are experiencing chronic health issues, feeling not heard, and let down by health practitioners. We might be a good fit to work and explore together. I specialise in Trauma, integrating Somatic & Bottom-Up Modalities. I've studied Biology of Trauma so I work both with Mind & Physiology. My approach is person-centred as every single human being is different and unique.

What is the goal of therapy for depression?

Therapy for depression has several major goals. One is to relieve the mental pain of depression, which distorts feeling and thinking so that sufferers cannot see beyond their current state of mind or envision feeling better. Another is to give people the mental tools to recognise and correct the kinds of distorted thinking that turn a problem into a catastrophe and lead to despair. Therapy also teaches people how to process negative emotions in constructive ways, so they have more control over their own emotional reactivity. And it helps people regain the ability to see themselves positively, the motivation to do things, and the capacity for pleasure.

What happens in therapy for depression?

Perhaps most important, no matter the type of therapy, patients form an alliance with the therapist; that connection is therapeutic in itself, plus it becomes an instrument of change. Patients learn to identify and to challenge their own erroneous beliefs and thoughts that amplify the effects of negative experiences. They learn to identify situations in which they are especially vulnerable. And they learn new patterns of thinking and behaving. They may be given “homework” assignments in which they practice their developing skills. In addition, good therapists regularly monitor patients to assess whether and how much the condition is improving.

What therapy types help with depression?

Several types of short-term therapy have been found effective, each targeting one or more areas of dysfunction. Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) helps clients challenge their negative thoughts and beliefs, learn new behavioral strategies, and curb reactivity to distressing situations. Behavioural activation (BA) is a form of therapy often used in conjunction with CBT; it focuses on engagement in rewarding activity as a pathway to changing negative feelings and disturbed mood. Another widely used approach is interpersonal therapy (IPT), which targets the social difficulties that both give rise to and get exacerbated by depression. Therapists may combine approaches as needed.

Can therapy for depression be done online?

Studies have found that online therapy can be highly effective for treating depression, although it may be more challenging to build a good therapist-patient alliance on screen than in person—at least at first. However, online therapy can offer considerable advantages. Accessibility and convenience are tops among them. Some people actually find it easier to talk about problems online than in person. While online therapy typically limits visibility of facial expression and body gestures that give important nonverbal cues to a patient’s state of mind, it can give therapists a glimpse into a patient’s world and life, providing information that can be highly useful in guiding therapy.

How effective is therapy for depression?

Many studies show that therapy is highly effective provided that patients complete the prescribed course of therapy, commonly 16 to 20 sessions. Over the long term, it is more effective than medication and the effects are more enduring. As a result, psychotherapy has the power not just to relieve current suffering but to prevent future episodes of the disorder. Therapy reverses the dysfunction in neural circuitry that disposes individuals to a negative view of themselves, the world, and their future and they acquire coping techniques, problem-solving skills, and understanding of their own vulnerabilities that are useful over the course of a lifetime.
