I have a warm approach and experience of working with clients dealing with issues such as relationship difficulties – including betrayals and breakups – anxiety, low mood, low self-esteem, addiction and bereavement.
My work with couples focuses on areas such as improving communication, managing conflict, building connection and negotiating stressful life events. My approach here is more integrative, drawing on different relationship theories, models and strategies.

Life is tough. The world can be a very harsh and unforgiving place indeed. Above all I work with kindness, acceptance and understanding - successful therapy always depends upon a partnership between you and me, both/all of us working purposefully together to solve the issues that are in your way - let's face it, there is simply not enough of those three qualities around these days. It is never a failure to reach out for help - never. It takes courage. So please reach out: I promise to take your hand, keep you safe, and together we'll walk the path to better days.

My work centres around trauma, developmental trauma, emotional neglect, the highly sensitive person and the capacity to understand and express feelings and emotions. Through working with body awareness, somatically and with mindfulness breathing, you will come to understand how these feelings arise and why your body responds and behaves in the way it does; why you say things and act as you do. As you become aware of the effect of this on yourself and others, you can make informed decisions and choices on how to change this so that you live your life fully and authentically to reach its full potential.

Hi, I hope your search for a therapist is going well. It can be a difficult process, but it is important to find a therapist who feels right for you. The relationship with your therapist is, on average, more helpful than their training and experience. Person-centred therapy is a relationship. It is not dependent on medical diagnoses, yet can help with all conditions. It is well proven to be as effective as other leading therapies, but uniquely it puts the client at the centre of the process. There is no 'you have x or y' or 'you should do this'. The right questions, and answers, will come from within in our conversations.

Can talking to someone help? At times we may all struggle with stresses, strains, challenges, difficulties, loss and change. In a fast changing and sometimes confusing world many of us may struggle to feel connected; with ourselves, with others and within society and during these times it can be helpful to talk about our thoughts, our feelings and our emotions.

Finding the right therapist can feel overwhelming. Speaking to a few people first can help you notice who you feel most at ease with. If you’d like to explore whether we’re a good fit, feel free to reach out for a free conversation. I’m an Art Psychotherapist, and sessions take place in a calm studio space with a range of art materials. You don’t need any artistic experience, art is used as a way to explore what is going on without the use of words. We move at your pace, using talking or creative expression depending on what feels right.

Psychologist, PsychD, HCPC - Couns. Psych.
Let me start by saying I’ve been to see a psychologist; why mention this? Two reasons: firstly, people often ask me this, so I’ll be up front about it. Secondly – maybe why people ask – having been “on the other side of the room”, I have the experience of how hard opening up can be, and how difficult it is to think about “life”. This experience has meant that back on the psych side of the room, I take a genuinely careful and non-judgmental approach to sessions. I begin by focusing on helping people feel comfortable; paradoxically perhaps, this means we are able to get to work on things quite quickly, but importantly, never rushing.

Specialist Trauma & Relational Recovery Healing is not just about moving past the pain; it is about reclaiming the parts of yourself you thought were lost. I work with adults who find themselves at a breaking point—whether triggered by a relational breakup, a career meltdown, or the resurfacing of childhood trauma. Traditional talk therapy has its limits. As a Dramatherapist, I offer a creative, embodied path to healing. This allows us to explore deep-seated issues like self-harm, depression, and complex PTSD in a way that feels safe, controlled, and profoundly transformative.

What is the best therapy for addiction?
Addiction treatment will be tailored to the individual. People seeking help for addiction—whether with a psychotherapist, in an outpatient clinic, or in a residential program—should expect to engage in multiple types of treatments, sometimes including medication. For anyone recovering from addiction, avoiding situations in which one has typically used a substance is essential, as is the support of close connections. Since substance use disorders tend to co-occur with underlying mental health conditions such as anxiety or depression, those must also be addressed as part of any recovery plan.

How long does therapy for addiction take?
There is no set timeline for recovery from addiction. Patients and their families should expect the work to last several months, if not longer. Residential treatment programs may be based on a stay of 30, 60, or 90 days, with continuing work after release, but only about 1 percent of people are treated in such facilities. Ceasing use is just the first step; therapy to help maintain abstinence and effect behavior change must follow. The process of recovery, neuroscience has shown, involves brain cells recovering the capacity to respond to natural sources of reward and restore control over the impulse to use. Another definition of recovery is restoring voluntary control over one’s substance use and retaking all of one’s previous responsibilities.

How effective is drug addiction treatment?
Substance use disorders are treatable and remission is achievable for many who seek recovery; by some estimates, more than three-quarters of people who become addicted to alcohol or drugs recover. But that success rarely occurs quickly or on a set timeline; relapse is not only common, but many therapists and clinicians view it as a normal part of the process—not always a sign that a person has returned to addiction, but a signal that their treatment should be adjusted to help them regain control. Overall, research suggests, five years after the end of substance use, one’s risk of relapse is no greater than that of others who had not faced addiction. Other experts believe that complete abstinence is not the only measure of recovery, and that, through effective treatment, many people can learn to control their use.

How can you get addiction treatment for someone?
The most important factor in recovery from addiction is widely understood to be an individual’s commitment to change. For that reason,“interventions” in which friends and family gather to urge or force someone to begin immediate treatment often backfire; even when such efforts do lead someone to begin treatment, they may be less likely to stay than those who are self-driven. Still, family members can play an important role in supporting an individual who seeks help and can take part in family therapy as one element of a loved one’s treatment.
