Hello and welcome to your therapy. In today’s world, is it possible to have it all and be it all? How can we manage high demands of life, career, family or mental illness? Perhaps you feel like you are doing the best you can and yet somehow it just isn’t enough. Or maybe you know what is happening just not sure how to change it. I offer support to people who are ready to connect with their inner story and shift it. I work with both conscious and unconscious patterns. We can attend to your past or stay in here and now. You lead the way.

Many of my clients feel stuck, overwhelmed, or disconnected from the life they want to be living. Some struggle with confidence, anxiety, stress, or unresolved past experiences like bullying or difficult relationships. Others feel lost in their personal or professional lives and need support in making real, lasting changes. They want to feel stronger, more in control, and able to move forward, but they don’t always know how. What they need is practical support and a therapist who truly understands their challenges—someone who can help them gain clarity, build resilience, and create a life that feels more balanced and fulfilling.

Life can be a challenge and it can sometimes help to explore what we’re going through with someone outside our immediate circle. I have a warm, supportive approach and experience of working with clients dealing with issues such as relationship difficulties – including affairs and betrayals, anxiety, bereavement, low mood, low self-esteem and addiction. We all experience difficult times in life and can sometimes feel stuck, overwhelmed or lost. It may be that you’re coming to terms with a challenging life event, navigating a time of transition, or generally feeling unsure of the best way forward for you.

I know how hard it is to find the right therapist and I hope I can help you. You may be seeking therapy to deal with your relationships, anxiety, depression, living abroad, burn-out, crisis of meaning and life purpose, or your life in general, to name but a few. Naturally, our work will be tailored to your needs and desires. We can work on thought patterns or behaviours that don’t serve you anymore. Or we might want to explore earlier experiences or relationships that are keeping you stuck. I am a British therapist working online and in-person in Amsterdam, Netherlands.

I have worked with and supported individuals with a range of complex mental health difficulties for over twenty years, initially as a nurse and now as a qualified CBT therapist . Many of my clients have needed an alternative way to view their situation to 'free' them from the distress they have been experiencing, along with a tailored tool box of coping strategies which they can choose from to empower them to manage the challenging experience. I have helped adolescent & adults experiencing OCD, PTSD, psychosis and/or complex emotional/relational difficulties, where the intervention required has been stress/anxiety targeted.

Family life can be full of emotional ups and downs. It can be so draining when we feel 'stuck' in behaviour cycles. I bring about understanding around behaviours through a child's natural form of communication - play.

Life is tough. The world can be a very harsh and unforgiving place indeed. Above all I work with kindness, acceptance and understanding - successful therapy always depends upon a partnership between you and me, both/all of us working purposefully together to solve the issues that are in your way - let's face it, there is simply not enough of those three qualities around these days. It is never a failure to reach out for help - never. It takes courage. So please reach out: I promise to take your hand, keep you safe, and together we'll walk the path to better days.

As a psychodynamic counsellor and hypnotherapist, my approach to working with clients is rooted in psychodynamic theory, which emphasises the exploration of unconscious processes and the influence of past experiences on a person's current thoughts, feelings, and actions. Here's a general outline of how I work with my clients: I shall meet with you, listen to you and together with you establish our therapeutic relationship.A safe and trusting working relationship. Once we have this we shall be ready to start exploring deep and often sensitive issues. I shall help you explore your unconscious thoughts, feelings, and conflicts.

Whether you are struggling with physical or/and emotional symptoms; perhaps feeling dissociated, emotionally numb, experiencing anxiety, a deep felt sense of 'what's the point', hopelessness, feeling disconnected, surviving rather than living your life... Perhaps you are experiencing chronic health issues, feeling not heard, and let down by health practitioners. We might be a good fit to work and explore together. I specialise in Trauma, integrating Somatic & Bottom-Up Modalities. I've studied Biology of Trauma so I work both with Mind & Physiology. My approach is person-centred as every single human being is different and unique.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

Counsellors and Psychotherapists listed in the directory are members of the main professional associations, mainly the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and the UK Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP). Most Psychologists in the directory are accredited members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and/or are registered in the Health and Care Professions Council (HPCP).

Providers whose professional membership or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Given that professional memberships are not a statutory requirement for psychotherapists and counsellors in the UK, certain qualified professionals or organisations may choose not to maintain such memberships despite possessing the necessary qualifications. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counsellor?

Counsellors, psychotherapists and psychologists can all provide counselling or talking therapy and have credentials and experience that enable them to do so in the UK. Psychologists have earned a degree in psychology and many are members of the British Psychological Society (BPS) and have completed a postgraduate qualification in a specialism. Counsellors and Psychotherapists are not required to have a psychology degree, but to belong to a professional organisation such as the BACP or UKCP, they are required to have completed a training course as well as clinical and supervision hours.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the UK could be between £30 - £60 when seeing a counsellor and £60 - £150 and up when seeing a clinical psychologist. If you have private insurance, your plan may cover some if not all of your sessions. You should contact your insurance provider to determine if they provide coverage for therapy sessions and to determine what, if any, requirements they might have in order for your sessions to be covered, such as a referral from your GP or medical specialist.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

If you are struggling to access therapy due to budget constraints, you could also consider public funded mental health services. The NHS Talking therapies programme offers free of charge counselling for common mental health problems like anxiety and depression. The service is available to anyone registered with a GP, though you do not necessarily need to be referred by your GP and can refer yourself directly to a Talking therapies service. The service will provide different solutions, including group and individual therapy, for a limited number of sessions which are generally up to six.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your postcode.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Therapists who are part of a professional organisation such as the BACP, the UKCP, or BPS are bound by an ethical framework that requires them to uphold a confidentiality agreement. Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship and only under specific circumstances, such as when there has been participation in a criminal act or act of terror, or if there is potential or known harm to the client or others, will a therapist be obligated to break the agreement. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed during the initial consultation.
