Perhaps you are the one everyone else leans on, yet lately it feels like you are running on empty. Maybe you have spent years just getting on with things, telling yourself that other people have it worse, but your sleep, mood or relationships are starting to show the strain. Whatever brings you here, you are not alone. I work with people who feel anxious, low, overwhelmed or stuck, often after long periods of holding it together for others, including those living with the impact of difficult or abusive experiences, complex trauma or CPTSD.

Hi! I'm Karin. I know that sometimes life can be very challenging for various reasons and as a result we don't always feel like our best selves. Getting neutral, non-judgemental support during these times can be life changing. I offer a holistic approach Integrating the Emotional Freedom Technique (aka tapping) together with other somatic and creative practices in my sessions for women. I primarily use tapping as a powerful tool to support the therapeutic process, as well as drawing from various modalities from different trainings that promote feeling your best self.

You may feel overwhelmed, stuck, or caught in painful patterns you can’t shift. Perhaps you struggle with anxiety, depression, addiction, or the impact of trauma or domestic abuse. You might notice repeated relationship difficulties or be very hard on yourself. You want relief, clarity, and healthier ways of coping. More than that, you want things to make sense, to feel calmer, safer within yourself, and able to build stronger, more secure relationships.

You may have spent much of your life coping well, supporting others and managing responsibility. Recently something may have shifted. You might feel emotionally overwhelmed, anxious or unlike yourself, without fully understanding why. Midlife and menopause can bring changes that feel confusing or difficult to talk about. You may feel exhausted holding everything together or disconnected from who you once were. My work is informed by both clinical experience and a specialist interest in the psychological impact of menopause.

When life gets difficult, the most courageous thing we can do for ourselves, is to reach out for help. Counselling is for anybody making their journey through the challenges of life. You might feel overwhelmed or just a little bit ‘stuck.’ Day-to-day tasks might be a struggle. You might have lost someone – recently or in the past. There might be changes in your life or difficult decisions to be made. Perhaps a past event keeps popping up, influencing the present more than you would like? Counselling can help.

I’m Sofia, a BACP Registered Psychodynamic Counsellor and Psychotherapist (MA) working with adults & children. Many of the people I work with struggle with the lingering effects of childhood trauma, depression, anxiety, relationship challenges, or patterns that feel hard to change, even when they want to. Together, we can explore what feels painful or confusing in your life and begin to make sense of how past experiences shape the way you feel and relate to others today. Through this understanding, you can reconnect with your emotions, reclaim precious aspects of yourself, and open space for meaning, connection, and self-acceptance.

I work with adults using a holistic approach who are feeling stuck. Many people are struggling with depression, stress, anxiety, and burnout. Some people are turning to alcohol, drugs or other addictive behaviours such as doom scrolling. I specialise in working with people who are worrying they aren’t managing their mental health and who may have experienced trauma, I offer an entirely non-judgemental, confidential, compassionate and safe space to talk about some of these things and help you to identify what changes you would like to make. I also specialise in working with ADHD and offering post-diagnostic support.

I am an analytical psychologist, psychotherapist, and supervisor based in Cambridge. While I work with a wide variety of people who have a range of issues and concerns, each person who comes to see me is special and each problem or concern they have is unique to them. Some of the concerns and issues that bring people to contact me are deep trauma and feelings of desperation, while others find themselves faced with an unexpected situation or difficult decision or want to explore and develop a deeper understanding of their life experience.

FAQ - Therapist Gender
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
