Hello, are you feeling low? experiencing anxiety? dealing with a loss or bereavement? Maybe you are struggling with emotional issues from the past that are intruding in your current life? At times we can find life difficult and struggle to make sense of it. Overcoming our problems on our own or talking with people we are closest to can be hard so speaking confidentially to a counsellor may be what you are looking for. Talking helps you to explore your thoughts and feelings so you can get a clearer view of your life. I will listen without judgement to how it feels to be you so you can discover what really matters to you.

Sometimes life and its many challenges can feel like a lot to deal with on your own. From anxiety, depression, and low mood to the demands of work, parenting, and changing relationships. You aren't alone. For lots of people these things come with feelings of being lost, stuck, or overwhelmed. For others it might feel like people don’t really understand you or what you’re going through or that you don't fit in. I work with adults navigating these transitions or searching for a deeper sense of meaning and identity, including exploring neurodiversity and sexuality. I offer an inclusive and affirming space for LGBTQ+ and ND clients.

I use a model of therapy which has a clear and effective set of organised ideas that is brief and solution focussed. Human Givens therapy encompasses all effective approaches to helping people. It is truly holistic, scientific and practical. The sessions are not designed to be multiple or long term. The intention is to work with the client to achieve the outcome they want in as short a time-frame as possible – and therefore they can move on, fully equipped for the next chapter.

Speaking to a empathic and non-judgmental counsellor can help you gain insight and clarity leading towards greater certainty, stability and calmness. This can help if you feel overwhelmed or maybe lost or unable to cope. For couples, improving your communication and rediscovering that sense of togetherness can breathe new life into your relationship. A fresh perspective can help you build resilience for the further struggles that life may bring. If you have experienced divorce, lone parenthood, relocation, a blended family or life-changing health event, I have a unique understanding of these issues.

Are you living a life that seems different from the one you had imagined? Would you like to understand how that has happened, and take steps to move towards a life that feels more rewarding, fulfilling and purposeful? Perhaps you want to rediscover your sense of self, that may have been obscured by competing demands and expectations. Perhaps you've experienced an unexpected loss, of a relationship, friend, your health or career. Perhaps you're feeling dissatisfied, and hope for more joy from the next years than the previous. I believe change is possible. Together we can think about your past, present and future in a different way

Sometimes we long for change, or find ourselves asking, ‘What is WRONG with me?’. Perhaps there’s an obvious reason - loss, life worries or a troubled relationship. Just as bad is when you can’t find a reason, you feel ‘nothing’. You lose emotional connection to life, others and yourself. This leads to inner conflict – different parts of you seem to want different things. One part is lonely, another is scared to connect. One part wants success, another wants to zone out. One part wants confidence, another wants to hide behind the curtains. You end up gridlocked into feelings and a life you don't want. I know, I've been there.

At certain points in our biography it becomes increasingly hard to navigate our way through the stresses of everyday life - whether it be relationships, work, bereavement or trauma. At these times, anxiety and stress makes it hard to make sense or understand what is happening - hard to know what the questions are let alone the answers! A safe space where you can be really listened to and heard without judgement, will help you navigate your way through the challenges and open up new ways of looking at what is happening. A space of healing where you can be more of the real you and more in charge of the direction your life is taking.

It can be really unsettling to deal with negative emotions by ourselves and to not know what we can do to help ourselves to feel better. I have been guiding clients for 16 years to achieve a resilient emotional stability and a more balanced sense of self-worth.

Female Counsellors

Does it matter what gender my therapist is?

In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.

Should I see a female therapist?

Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.

Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?

Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?

It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
