I take a collaborative approach to therapy, integrating elements of evidence-based therapeutic models such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT) and Dialectical Behavioural Therapy (DBT) amongst others, to ensure the therapy you receive is adapted to you, your needs and goals.
You may be struggling with anxiety, depression, painful memories, emotions, repeated unhelpful behaviours. Or perhaps, you struggle with your relationship with food and your body, perfectionism, or have gone through one of life’s most painful experiences of losing a baby (at any stage of pregnancy or after birth). Whatever your concerns, therapy can be vital part on your healing journey. Reaching out may be difficult but I’m here to offer a safe, supportive space, however that may look for you. My hope in our work is to spend time understanding your story, your resilience and your goals, and work alongside you to reclaim your life.

I work collaboratively with people to move forward with their lives with what ever they are finding difficult and distressing. I have a huge amount of experience of working with people who have specific diagnosis such as (Eating Disorder, Anxiety, Depression, OCD). However, I also work with people who are generally feeling like their life lacks the meaning they want it to, they might be struggling with burnout, stress, lack of motivation and general low confidence. With everyone I work with they have the desire to make changes, move forward in a different direction in their lives and learn new skills to cope.

Hello and Welcome, Life can indeed be difficult at times. Many are struggling with mental health in ways that are no longer manageable. Our past and present hurts, our unprocessed feelings can rise to the surface. We find ourselves thinking, feeling and acting in ways that do not reflect who we want to be. Some of us have Grief, Trauma or Addiction that we just can’t seem to work through. As a Senior Accredited Psychotherapist with a PHD(Hon), Master Degree and EMDR(Accredited), I've seen thousands come through my door, with various presenting issues and undergo genuine transformation, healing and leave with hope for the future.

Hi I’m Nicola.. I assume if you’re reading this then you or someone you love, is struggling with how life is at the moment and may be looking for change in some way? Sometimes the issue is clear, but other times we might just feel ‘off’ and need a little exploration to figure out what needs to change in order to feel better. I offer a warm, compassionate, and structured approach to therapy, working collaboratively and at a pace that feels right for you.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
