I am a qualified Cognitive Analytic Therapy (CAT) therapist and Dialectical Behaviour Therapist (DBT). I worked for the NHS and have developed my private practice over 8 years, giving me a wealth of experience. My approach is very much compassion focused, helping clients to build a kinder, more compassionate relationship with themselves as I believe that the inner critic is often at the core of a clients difficulties and can block progress. I'm passionate about empowering clients who feel stuck, helping them to foster a sense of hope that they can overcome their distress and believe that things can change for the better.

I am an Adult Autism specialist and work with problems including burnout, depression, anxiety and low self-esteem. I am particularly interested in supporting adults who find they are struggling to come to terms with what it means to be autistic. Unfortunately, many autistic adults report poor experiences of therapy. I have a particular interest in supporting adults who are struggling to make sense of what it means to be autistic, and clients tell me that the support I offer feels very different from what they have experienced elsewhere. I don’t expect my clients to change anything about themselves, especially not on my behalf.

I’m a trainee counsellor and psychotherapist, supporting adults through a range of life experiences, including anxiety, low mood, trauma, grief, and relationship or attachment difficulties. I’ve worked across GP surgeries, university counselling services, and domestic abuse support settings, which has given me the opportunity to meet people from many different walks of life. At the heart of my work is creating a space where you can feel safe enough to be yourself—whatever that looks like on the day. You don’t need to have the right words or a clear starting point. We can figure things out together, at your pace.

People often first come for counselling when they begin to experience symptoms of low mood and anxiety such as disturbed sleep, low levels of motivation and energy, or increased rates of irritability and tension which just don’t seem to shift. These symptoms could be related to a significantly upsetting event, or they might be linked to a background of adversities and difficulties. Either way, you might be hoping to improve your mood and to reduce feelings of anxiety or panic, to regain a sense of confidence and self esteem, and to feel more energised and motivated. People often say they want to get back to their old self again.

Sometimes the issues we face paralyse us with anxieties. Sometimes we have no one in our lives who are able to help or we may not want to burden others. It’s difficult to trust people with our innermost worries, feelings and thoughts. Yet we all need help to get through difficult periods in our lives. It may be that friends and family tell us to stop dwelling on the past or try and move on. But no matter how hard we try, the past hangs around to haunt us or we have no words to describe what we feel. Additionally, we may wish to explore our experience for personal or professional reasons.

There is so much focus these days on "What's wrong with you" using terms such as 'depression', 'anxiety', 'disorder', rather than talking about "What happened to you?" Your mental health is much more than just a label or a diagnosis and therapy offers so much more than just talking. It can give you new understanding, new insights, a different perspective, clarity about a problem and the way forward. It can teach you skills to live your life better, teach you more healthy coping strategies or simply give you the space and time for self reflection and a place to find peace of mind.

I work with adults and couples or families who feel overwhelmed, stuck, or disconnected from themselves. Whether you're struggling with anxiety, trauma, relationships, self-worth, or life's challenges, I offer a warm, non-judgmental space where you can be yourself. I won't tell you what to do or claim to have all the answers. Instead, we'll work together to understand what's happening, recognise unhelpful patterns, and help you move towards a life that feels more authentic, meaningful, and true to you

If you are struggling with relationships, loss, stress, or feeling lost and overwhelmed, you might feel like you’re stuck, don’t know where to turn or how to move forward. Sometimes we don’t know what to say, how to say it or even fully understand what we are feeling; it’s often not just one thing that we are feeling but a complex mix of different emotions. Our sessions together will give you the opportunity to be heard, to explore your emotions and unpick the difficulties you are having.

Self-criticism can feel like it’s on a painful, repeating loop. You might find you are telling yourself that you are not good enough, or boring, ugly or fat. Far from motivating you, it’s my belief that punishing yourself in this way actually limits your choices and actions and keeps you stuck. Quite simply, talking to yourself in a mean way doesn’t get you anywhere. Talking to another person, and opening up about this habit can really help.

You may not know it, but you've already taken the first step. It can be scary and confusing making the decision to contact a therapist, but in my experience people will struggle with a problem for much longer than is healthy. Sometimes a friend can provide a source of comfort, but this help can only go so far. I offer a calm, grounded space where you can talk openly — without judgment or pressure to be anything other than yourself. My approach is kind, reflective, and relational, supporting you to make sense of what feels difficult and move toward clarity, self-understanding, and change at your own pace.

I am a qualified Person Centred counsellor, and am autistic, bringing my lived experience into my practice where I also use Gestalt, NLP, somatic experience therapy, geek therapy methodologies, and dream therapy. I offer a space where, in the time we work together, you will be the only thing that matters as my own experience has taught me that having someone to talk to that understands, would make a difference.

You may be feeling stuck in patterns you understand intellectually but can’t seem to shift. Perhaps anxiety, trauma, relationship difficulties, or a deep sense of disconnection keeps looping no matter how much insight you gain. You might be high-functioning on the outside, yet internally exhausted, overwhelmed, or quietly carrying experiences that your nervous system never fully processed. Does this feel familiar? If you’ve talked it through, analysed it to death, and still find your body reacting like the threat never ended, you’re not broken — your nervous system is doing exactly what it learned to do.

FAQ - About Therapy for Seniors
Is one ever too old for mental health therapy?
Individuals of all ages can benefit from mental health therapy. Indeed, older adults in particular may benefit from the social and psychological support a therapist can provide; the topics that older adults address in therapy may simply differ from those of younger clients. Seniors should seek out a therapist who has experience working with older individuals and who is well-versed in addressing common concerns among elderly individuals, such as depression, anxiety, loneliness, and physical mobility challenges.

How is counselling for elderly different from counselling for other age groups?
In general, counselling offers an opportunity for clients to process difficult life events and develop coping skills they can use outside of the therapy session. Therapists who specialise in working with elderly clients generally have the same framework but may place a special emphasis on specific topics, such as caregiver relationships and reducing loneliness. They may be specially equipped to deal with certain physical conditions or facilitate discussion surrounding end-of-life topics. Counselling for the elderly may also place a greater emphasis on social work-type topics to ensure that geriatric clients have access to necessary resources, such as food, a safe home environment, and healthcare.

How can therapy improve the quality of life of aging individuals?
Therapy for aging adults can greatly improve quality of life by providing an opportunity for them to process difficult emotions related to end-of-life, navigate relational or caregiver challenges, and develop coping skills for common mental health conditions, like anxiety or depression. Subsequent reductions in negative emotions and mental health disorder symptoms can make day-to-day living much more manageable for aging adults and those that care for them. The ongoing relationship with a trusted therapist can also help seniors combat loneliness and provide a sense of structure for their routine.

What are the qualities to look for in therapists who see seniors?
Seniors counsellors, like mental health counselors in general, should be kind, empathetic, skilled at listening, and knowledgeable about their particular area of expertise. Counsellors specialising in working with the senior population should be very familiar with the aging process in general and the common conditions that the elderly can face, such as dementia, depression, loneliness, and/or physical illness. Many senior counsellors are also well-equipped to help caregivers and families navigate the aging process of their loved ones, and they may draw on Interpersonal Therapy to help facilitate improved interactions between seniors and those that care for them.
