I provide therapy for depression, anxiety, panic attacks, self-esteem, PTSD, confidence and Phobia.
I became a therapist because I am passionate about people and improving as well as enhancing mental wellbeing. I understand that life can be a challenge and at times it may be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel but I want to assure you that you do not have to go through life’s struggles by yourself. I am here for you and I am here with you. With your permission, I would like to come besides you and help you explore and discover events, thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour and together support you to make changes.

I have trained in a number of modalities, and have particular experience working in the areas of anxiety, spirituality, sexuality, gender, trauma, addiction and mindfulness.
Hello. My name is Steve and I trained as a person-centred counsellor, although I have an interest in a broad range of therapies, including CBT, Existential and Family Systems Therapy. I believe that therapy is an exploration, where a safe, open and non-judgemental space can help us explore life's meaning, and help us overcome the things that trouble us.

Do you find yourself anxious, lost or confused by things happening around you?
Every individual is unique and we all respond to our environment in different and unique ways. We all deserve to be heard and within each one of us is the ability to change, transform and evolve. One of the most insightful things I’ve learnt as a mental health practitioner is that we are products of our thoughts, experiences and environment. How we think affects our worldview and determines our success in life. Our thoughts affect our physical and mental health and this may have significant impact on our present and future. We will work together to explore your feelings and how to manage your thoughts and relationships.

I work with people navigating all sorts of things; anxiety, depression, low self-worth, grief, trauma, relationship struggles, or just feeling completely stuck.
Rational Emotive Behavioural Therapy and CBT are at the heart of what I do, helping us explore how your beliefs influence the way you feel and respond – but I’m not just a cognitive therapist. I’m also a counsellor, and the relationship we build is just as important as the tools we use. I bring in EMDR, compassion-focused therapy, identity and values work,

Do you find yourself feeling overwhelmed, anxious, or stressed?
Taking that first step to see a counsellor can be nerve-wracking and it's completely understandable to feel anxious (I felt the same way too). However, once you start sharing your thoughts and feelings, it can bring a sense of relief to have someone listen and you will be at centre of the work.

I am a person-centred counsellor and my approach is rooted in the belief that you are the expert of 'you' and trust that the therapeutic relationship we build together will enable you to unlock your innate wisdom and inner resources for change. I have considerable experience working with grief and loss, however I work with clients for a wide range of issues.

I have experience working with clients facing a range of challenges, including Depression, Anxiety, Loneliness & Isolation, Grief & Loss and Childhood Trauma
The version of ourselves that we want to be - or that we need to be – can change, from year to year, month to month, even day to day. This is challenging enough to navigate but, when our mental health takes a turn, it can suddenly all get a bit much, can't it? Sometimes we can't do it alone and that’s OK. That's where I can help. That outside voice who isn't in the situation, who can listen without judging, and give you the space you n I believe in affordable counselling for all, and that's why my online sessions start at £20. I also offer Pay What You Can sessions for those unwaged or on a low income. Message me for more info.

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
