Rather than analysing, or tell you how to feel and act, I walk alongside you in your discovery for answers and growth.
Are you looking to make sense of things?  We seek counselling for a number of reasons including anxiety, trauma, depression, loss, stress, relationship difficulties - but also to gain a greater understanding of the ‘self’ and improve psychological well-being. Mostly and put simply, we want to learn to feel better about ourselves.

I often integrate a range of different therapies such as CBT, systemic therapy, solution-focused therapy, acceptance and commitment and narrative approaches, so that your experience is bespoke to you.
Are you feeling exhausted, stressed and overwhelmed? Are you in physical or emotional pain, working relentlessly in different areas of your life: at work, home or study, in relationships, caring or parental roles? Do you need to make sense of, and overcome trauma, feelings of sadness, low-self esteem or burnout? As a third generation British Jamaican Psychologist, managing long-term conditions whilst being a mother of three, I warmly welcome clients of all ages and walks of life, and have a passion for supporting people living alongside mental, physical or neurological difficulties and trauma.

Utilising my training in CBT, ACT, CFT & EMDR to tailor the treatment to your needs and goals.
Do you struggle with self-doubt and anxiety, feel like a fraud or impostor, worry that you're going to be "found out", and despite your successes and achievements you still feel the same. You may find yourself working harder and longer to try and appease the self-doubt, you may avoid opportunities due to the fear of failure, and can struggle with procrastination. Do you find yourself being self-critical, putting yourself under a lot of pressure to achieve, comparing yourself negatively to others, and overthinking. Do you want to break free from the impact of Impostor Syndrome, building confidence in yourself and living life fully?

Sometimes life can feel like a struggle, provoking anxiety, distress and confusion. You may feel that something needs to change, but are unsure of which direction to take. Maybe you already know what you need but would welcome a little support and clarity to enable you to move forward. Perhaps you have experienced a significant life event, either recently or in the past, that has derailed you? Bereavement, relationships, work and health are among the many concerns that can be de-stabilising. Counselling can help to untangle past or current concerns that are causing you to feel low or isolated.

Hello. My name is Steve and I trained as a person-centred counsellor, although I have an interest in a broad range of therapies, including CBT, Existential and Family Systems Therapy. I believe that therapy is an exploration, where a safe, open and non-judgemental space can help us explore life's meaning, and help us overcome the things that trouble us.

I became a therapist because I am passionate about people and improving as well as enhancing mental wellbeing. I understand that life can be a challenge and at times it may be hard to see the light at the end of the tunnel but I want to assure you that you do not have to go through life’s struggles by yourself. I am here for you and I am here with you. With your permission, I would like to come besides you and help you explore and discover events, thoughts, feelings and patterns of behaviour and together support you to make changes.

Every individual is unique and we all respond to our environment in different and unique ways. We all deserve to be heard and within each one of us is the ability to change, transform and evolve. One of the most insightful things I’ve learnt as a mental health practitioner is that we are products of our thoughts, experiences and environment. How we think affects our worldview and determines our success in life. Our thoughts affect our physical and mental health and this may have significant impact on our present and future. We will work together to explore your feelings and how to manage your thoughts and relationships.

Hi, I am a person centred counsellor this means I accept and support you to explore ways to help overcome any uncomfortable or traumatic emotions you may be experiencing. I have also trained in cognitive behavioural therapy which can also help support and reframe thinking. We may have experiences in life that can be overwhelming or we are unable to make sense of the events that may have happened to us. Asking for help can be the first step for us to overcome or understand how we are feeling and the repetitive behaviour's or thoughts that can keep us in a unhealthy cycle, working together allows us to find heathy self-awareness.

I offer a Counselling service to individuals, young people and families who may be facing personal difficulties and challenges. We all experience painful events and losses at various times in our lives and Counselling creates a safe containing space for clients to explore and process their emotions on a range if issues that may be impacting on them negatively. This can help clients to identify their triggers which may be responsible for creating the emotional and or physical distress. It also helps develop some strategies for clients to have at their disposal to manage better the impacts of the distress being experienced.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors

How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?

Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?

The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?

Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?

A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
