I am a psychoanalytic psychotherapist and work looking at how our past experiences , both conscious and unconscious, can influence our present suffering.
I am an experienced, qualified and approachable psychotherapist working with individual adults. Feelings of depression, anxiety or a lack of direction or meaning in life need to be understood in a broad context. By looking at our whole life we can uncover who we really are and where we wish to go. I offer a safe space where troublesome, dark and difficult feelings can be examined and explored - by bringing them into the light we open up the possibility of facing and understanding them.

Hello. When life gets difficult or you are faced with challenges, starting therapy can feel daunting. By offering a safe space for you to share and reflect on emotional, mental, or behavioural issues that may be troubling or difficult to work through; I will help you gain an insight into your unconscious thoughts, behaviours and emotions. Through gaining a deeper understanding of yourself and how your past experiences, are impacting you, you can begin to feel more in control of your inner world; develop new perspectives, and acquire more helpful ways of coping and relating to others.

So, let's talk about you. Perhaps you've experienced a painful break up from a romantic relationship and are left hurt, confused, scared even and are feeling totally lost and unsure of how to move forward. Sometimes we just don't want to let go! The anxiety of it all can be through the roof and can really leave you questioning yourself and leave you feeling small with next to no self worth, destroying confidence. Whatever your reason for seeking therapy, untangling emotions can help. I work psychodynamically, which means we would think together about what is currently troubling you, and your past experiences. Therapy may seem daunting; in practice it is a relationship focused on you through which greater self-understanding and change becomes possible.

I support clients who may feel "stuck" in traditional talk therapy or find it difficult to put their complex emotions into words. I work with children, families, and adults who are seeking a more creative, embodied way to process big emotions or life experiences. I am particularly passionate about supporting neurodivergent individuals who are looking for a neuro-affirming space where they can be their authentic selves without the pressure to mask. In our sessions, the creative process acts as a "bridge" between the conscious and unconscious, allowing us to explore feelings that are often beyond words.

I believe therapy is a collaborative experiment aimed at tangibly and enduringly improving the quality of your life. Success often begins by formulating the right questions. As an experienced assessor and case manager, I excel at fostering curiosity to connect seemingly disparate threads in your story. This process creates new understanding and provides space to address the challenges we often keep hidden—unpacking them with more care and honesty than day-to-day life typically allows. In this, I follow a person-centred foundation that prioritises safety and careful listening.

Psychoanalytic Counsellors
Does psychoanalytic therapy work?
Psychoanalytic therapy derives from the work of Sigmund Freud. In this type of therapy, discovering buried thoughts and emotions from the unconscious will help a person work through their difficulties and negative behaviours. Research shows that psychoanalytic therapy can be highly effective, with patients reporting improvement in mood, quality of life, and overall well-being.

How long are people typically in psychoanalytic therapy?
Traditional psychoanalysis is in-depth and is conducted in five sessions every week. Today, modern psychoanalytic therapy is less intense and normally incorporates as few as one or two sessions a week. In some cases, positive change can occur quickly. However, if the condition, difficulty, or behaviour is deep-seated, improvement may require many months or years of therapy.

Is psychoanalytic therapy suitable for young people?
Children and adolescents can benefit from this type of therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts and emotions. Psychoanalytic therapy uses specific techniques such as dream analysis, symbolism, and free association or word association; all of which can be useful tools for less-communicative young people. Through this therapy, a patient will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Can psychoanalytic therapy be done online?
Modern-day psychoanalytic therapy is very different from traditional psychoanalysis. While an individual can sit face-to-face with the psychoanalyst for multiple sessions a week, they do not have to. Today, psychoanalytic therapy can be effectively conducted online or by phone. The key is that the individual confronts what is repressed and avoided, and this can be done whether in person or over online video.
