I provide an integrative counselling experience. This means I utilise aspects of several models of therapy to suit individual circumstances. It is unrealistic to expect one model of therapy to work for everyone therefore, having access to several models provides an approach that may be tailored to each individual's needs. Therapy should be a collaborative experience where we work together to find the right solutions. In doing so, I hope to find long-term answers for those tired of the 'revolving door' experience of counselling with symptoms being temporarily relieved but continually recurring.

I am specifically trained to work with children, adolescents, families and adults. I use an integrative approach that includes traditional talking therapy in combination with creative imagination through visualisations, breath work, dreams, art and play.
Underpinning my practice is the belief that we are made up of mind, body and soul. Our essential qualities can be covered over by the stress of life and our environment. Our work is to reveal the soul nature underneath and find ways to heal and nourish the true self.

Perhaps you’re used to keeping the peace, putting other people first or doubting yourself, and it’s beginning to leave you anxious, low or frustrated. You may be struggling with confidence, difficult relationship patterns, boundaries or a sense of where your life is heading. I work particularly well with men, both gay and straight, although my practice is open to everyone. Together we can explore what has shaped these patterns, understand the part you may play in them, and work towards greater confidence, healthier relationships and more choice in how you live.

Hi I'm Matthew. My style is warm and free of judgement. It’s often easier to talk to a confidential person unconnected to your family or friends. I work with anxiety and depression, relationships, loss, abuse, self-esteem, anger, social anxiety or those who are stuck. Improvement comes from insight, new behaviours, understanding and acceptance but also from stepwise, practical change. If requested I can work in a more active and future focused way with the current advice, tools, exercises and activities supported by the evidence base.

We encounter various kinds of difficulties and challenges every day. At times, it can be challenging to open up to others, therefore leading to feelings of confusion and a sense of powerlessness. Recently, many individuals from Hong Kong who have relocated to the UK have faced setbacks in their social, professional, or academic pursuits. Such challenges often stem from uncertainties surrounding self-image and self-worth while adapting to a new environment. If you find yourself in a similar situation, exploring yourself through psychological counseling can provide you with more effective means to understand and address these emotions

I work with people who feel stuck, lost or anxious, often facing a life or work transition or coming to terms with a change in their circumstances. I can provide support and understanding to help you move forward and feel less anxious. I'm also a certified coach, so I can bring this into the work if you choose. I focus on creating a relationship in which trust, care and warmth is experienced and in which aspects of self can be openly explored and self-acceptance and self- knowledge can grow. I believe that there are always good reasons for why we behave as we do, and that when the time is right, we may choose to update our choices.

People may come to therapy when life feels exhausting, confusing, overwhelming, or increasingly difficult to bear. In a society that often asks us to keep functioning while leaving little room to simply be, many people can feel disconnected, uncertain, unseen, or estranged from themselves. I work with people with a range of experiences and diagnoses, including ADHD, autism, OCD, psychosis and personality disorders, as well as those seeking greater self-awareness. I hold these experiences not as individual shortcomings, but as meaningful responses to lives, relationships and systems that have not always been liveable or accommodating

I work with adults who appear to cope well on the outside, yet privately struggle with anxiety, relationship difficulties, emotional overwhelm or a persistent sense of inner tension. Some of the people I work with have already tried talking therapy and are looking for something deeper, while others are seeking therapy for first time.
I am a trauma-informed psychotherapist specialising in somatic psychotherapy for adults in Richmond and online. My approach integrates psychodynamic understanding with body-based work, helping you move beyond insight towards emotional regulation, nervous system stability and lasting relational change.

My private practice is directly opposite Richmond station and I work with both individuals and couples.
People will often seek therapy when something in their life or relationships has shifted. You may feel unsettled, stuck, or unsure what exactly has changed, only that familiar ways of coping no longer seem to work. For some, this follows a specific event. For others, it emerges more gradually. Therapy offers a space to slow things down, reflect, and begin making sense of what is happening, without pressure to arrive with clear answers.

Men's Issues Counsellors
Is therapy for men different than it is for women?
Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.
How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?
It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.
How can men prepare for therapy?
Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.
What should men know about the process of therapy?
One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
