For neurodivergent clients, these struggles can be intensified by years of masking, late diagnosis, and the pain of being misunderstood.
Together, we can explore your concerns in a collaborative space where you can feel fully seen and heard, and where your experiences are treated with empathy, respect, and understanding. I work especially with clients navigating recurring relationship patterns, as well as neurodivergent clients exploring masking, late diagnosis, and better self-understanding.

I am specifically trained to work with children, adolescents, families and adults. I use an integrative approach that includes traditional talking therapy in combination with creative imagination through visualisations, breath work, dreams, art and play. Underpinning my practice is the belief that we are made up of mind, body and soul. Our essential qualities can be covered over by the stress of life and our environment. Our work is to reveal the soul nature underneath and find ways to heal and nourish the true self.

Hi I'm Matthew. My style is warm and free of judgement. It’s often easier to talk to a confidential person unconnected to your family or friends. I work with anxiety and depression, relationships, loss, abuse, self-esteem, anger, social anxiety or those who are stuck. Improvement comes from insight, new behaviours, understanding and acceptance but also from stepwise, practical change. If requested I can work in a more active and future focused way with the current advice, tools, exercises and activities supported by the evidence base.

Everyone feels overwhelmed or troubled at some point in their lives. It may feel like this is a strange and new experience, or it may be all too familiar. You may know clearly what you want to address or you may have only a vague sense of what feels wrong. I can help, I have experience and expertise to offer, and a willingness to understand what is going on for you and what brings you to therapy. Together we can explore and make some sense of your experience and feelings, and find new and lasting ways forward.

I specialise in: • Living with neurodiversity or newly diagnosed (ADHD/ Autism) • Anxiety, low mood, depression and trauma • Self-esteem and confidence • Stress management and boundary setting • Life transitions / feeling stuck • Professional / family and romantic relationship problems • Narcissistic abuse recovery.
I’m a therapist who helps people on an individual basis, to understand how to navigate relationships of all kinds – from friendships, family, professional and romantic. I believe that the fundamentals of our relationship blueprints begin in early childhood, where we first create a ‘way to live or cope.’ The way we make these shapes the foundation of all our relational experiences, but what if those foundations are no longer practical? If you feel like now is the right time, then you might benefit from exploring these situations with professional support. Connect with a therapist who understands the challenges of modern life.

As a registered clinical psychologist I have a passion for working with a wide range of emotional and behavioural difficulties, such as fear, anxiety, poor self-esteem, low mood, depression, panic attacks, bereavement, stress, difficulties in adjusting to life events and interpersonal difficulties. I know that deciding to seek help can be difficult, yet living with emotional difficulties can be even more challenging and draining. I want to empower you to find new ways of coping and being. This can mean learning new coping strategies, relating differently to your thoughts and emotions, and being more connected to others.

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
