Hi, we’re Faye and Becki! Here at F&B Therapy, we provide evidence-based Cognitive Behavioural Therapy via typed messaging or telephone. We provide treatments for a number of psychological difficulties, drawing on up-to-date methods and approaches, whilst catering to the person as an individual. We have worked in NHS-funded services for many years and know that waiting lists can be long and sessions limited. How and when you speak to your therapist can also be limited to traditional offers of daytime working hours or via an office, which isn't the preferred method for everyone.

Hello, I’m Dorrie. Finding a therapist that is right for you can be completely overwhelming; there is so much choice and sometimes, the therapist jargon can be a real head scratcher. As you read through my profile, have a think about if I seem like someone you could connect with, as that is such an important aspect of finding the right therapist. You may be seeking therapy because you are feeling depressed, anxious or may want to explore who you are and what that means to you. Together we will forge a relationship which will serve as a safe haven to express and explore yourself openly, without judgment.

One of the things I love about EMDR is that it puts you, the client, in control, (something we may not have had very much of when our traumas were taking place). EMDR does not delete memories but simply changes the way painful memories are stored, so that when we think about them, they no longer trigger negative emotions or sensations. As my mother once said, you can go around it, under it or over it but at some point, you must go through it. I wish you strength and healing on your journey.

Hi, I’m an accredited Psychotherapeutic Counsellor (UKCP/ MBACP) with a specialism of working with children, young people and adult clients. I am trained in EMDR (Masterclass) and have many years experience working with children and families within settings, such as schools, hospices, charities, clinical settings, LAC teams and in the community – Like Violet Oaklander says ‘Play can be a serious business’. I am a humanistic, ‘integrative’ practitioner, so I use different methods to develop a warm, friendly relationship based on individual needs, respect and accepting the person as a whole – in other words - ‘I’m Ok – You’re Ok’.

Sometimes life can become too overwhelming because of difficult events or relationships, both old or current. You may be struggling with anxious feelings or have become stuck in unhelpful behaviours as you try to manage your world. This can become a lonely and disempowering place. People come to therapy because they recognise these thoughts or strategies are limiting their lives. My work is humanistic in approach with a person-centred focus; this means that I will listen and value what you share and not be judgemental or directive. I build empathic therapeutic relationships that enable you to feel safe to share your emotions.

If you are on this page, it probably means you are a feeling a little stuck and could do with someone to trust, not judge you and listen to you. I can do that. What makes me different, I’ve been there. I’m not going to write paragraphs about me because this is about you. If you’d like to know more about me, please visit my site ww.allanclayton.co.uk “When I stand at the foot of a mountain, I can very rarely see the summit. It can be exceptionally tough to start looking for therapy, and I'm proud of you for doing so today. As both a practicing therapist and as someone who has healed and grown in therapy myself, I know how it feels to be in both chairs in the therapy office. If you are looking for somewhere to create meaning in your life, you are feeling lost or hopeless, or you are seeking emotional support, please get in touch. I’m offering therapy exclusively through Skype, Zoom, and by phone, depending on your preference. While I plan to be back in the office to see people face-to-face when it is safe to do so, I am also excited to see you online!

Autism Counsellors

What is the most effective treatment for autism?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) has come to be considered the standard treatment for children with autism spectrum disorder, and research has confirmed its effectiveness for many children. Therapists trained in ABA techniques work with children (and their parents) on developing social skills, communication and learning abilities, and everyday habits of hygiene and grooming. The clinician will tailor their program to the child’s particular need but the overarching goal will be to help them advance as far as possible toward independence based on their level of symptoms and decrease the need for additional special services. Families should seek a mental health professional specifically trained in ABA, and holding special certification in the technique, who has extensive experience not only with the approach but in using it with children with the same level of symptoms as the child who needs care.

How does ABA work?

Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) sessions, which typically focus on positive reinforcement, can be intensive, lasting two or more hours several times a week, and continuing for two years or more. Therapists can also be expected to ask parents to take an active role in reinforcing lessons. Research has found that the technique can lead to major improvements that decrease the need for additional special services.

How does treatment for autism work?

Therapy sessions based on Applied Behavior Analysis will likely be frequent, intensive, and highly structured. After a thorough assessment, a therapist will help a child understand and develop skills in a range of areas, including communication, motor skills, social skills, self-care, play, and academic skills, as well as routines of daily living like hygiene. Typically, the therapist will help a child break down the components of a behavior—often referred to as the antecedent (what prompts an action), the behavior, and the consequence(what immediately follows)—and then reward the child at every step, while also asking parents to reinforce the lessons, and the rewards, throughout the day. This core therapy may be supplemented by occupational or speech therapy, and antidepressants, antipsychotics, and anticonvulsants may be prescribed to address specific severe symptoms.

How long does therapy for autism take?

Some people with autism spectrum disorder may be engaged in some level of therapy for many years, but research shows that treatment will be most effective if it is begun early and delivered intensively. When therapy begins by age 3, children tend to be better able to grasp and adopt the skills needed to manage everyday life, including attending school and establishing social relationships. This type of early-intervention treatment regimen is highly structured, typically involving 20 to 40 hours of one-on-one therapy per week, along with additional hours of engagement managed by parents, for a period of two years or more, although the duration of treatment is dependent on the child’s level of symptoms and pace of progress.
