From an in depth exploration of your current difficulties, we will work together to explore their origins and to aim to reduce their distressing impact through a healthy respectful therapeutic
relationship
.
Clients come with diverse problems and needs. What matters to my clients, matters to me. Generally, I have found problems which manifest in current life relationships (romantic, family, work, with services or with ourself) but which originate in our past experiences are those which can be worked on helpfully using the ways I work. A measure of openness to explore other perspectives and to really think about describing issues is very important as is a commitment to think outside sessions about things that may be the causes of distress.

The core modality of my practice is psychodynamic, underpinning my work and helping to support me in creating a
relationship
where underlying unconscious issues that may prevent you from thoroughly enjoying your life can be explored and brought into your awareness.
Modern life is filled with various trials and tribulations, psychotherapy is a tool to help you navigate many challenges and uncertainty in order to live your best possible life. One of my goals as your therapist is to help you understand yourself better. I do this by shedding light on things that may be out of your awareness, supporting you in unravelling and making sense of any difficulties and working with you to discover your path to wellness.

I have experience of working with adults facing life difficulties and concerns including anxiety, work problems and sex and
relationship
difficulties.
I believe that at times, we all struggle with life difficulties and need someone who understand and sees us. There can be huge barriers to fairness in our society and this, along with the pressures of relationships, social media, work and expectations of others, can reduce our ability to cope alone. I believe that counselling can play a key role in helping us navigate these difficulties and face the future with a little more optimism.

It is often hard for others to understand how we experience life, and this can lead to feelings of isolation and despair. The evidence suggests that finding a therapist you feel able to talk to and understood by is key to a successful therapeutic experience. Fundamentally, the counselling
relationship
is a key factor in opening up the opportunity for a beneficial outcome: and I endeavour to provide a space that is safe and supportive, one that is non-judgemental, trusting and offers compassionate understanding to enable you an opportunity to explore what is causing difficulty in your life.
I'm an integrative therapeutic counsellor, registered with the BACP (British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy). This means that I work with each individual in a way that is client led integrating both humanistic and psychodynamic approaches. Counselling can provide a space to pause and look at particular areas of concern and help determine a path of where to go next. With more clarity it can make you feel freer and more empowered to create a life that feels more meaningful and fulfilling.

Couples Counselling
Does couples counseling work?
Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.
When should a couple seek counseling?
Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.
How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?
The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.
How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?
The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
