I help clients with addiction, unhealthy self-esteem, people pleasing, codependency and shame.
Life can be difficult, however, there are times when difficulties and feelings become overwhelming and everything seems like a struggle. Having a capable ally alongside you who is impartial, warm and honest can be what’s needed to recognise and shift out of unhelpful patterns of thinking and behaviour. Living in this world can't always be safe but I believe we are meant to feel safe in our bodies and our sense of who we are. Rather than 'fixing' problems, focusing on being 'better' or even happier, we can develop our sense of security, wholeness and worth, increasing our ability to navigate life's challenges.

I work with adults who feel the lasting impact of trauma or overwhelming experiences, even when those events happened years ago. You may feel anxious, disconnected, hyper‑aware of others, or unsure why certain patterns keep repeating. Perhaps you function well on the outside but feel exhausted underneath. You want to understand yourself more deeply, feel safer in your own skin, and move forward without the past quietly shaping your present.

I have experience working with clients who experience various mental health disorders, ranging from ADHD to generalised anxiety and depression. I am not afraid to challenge what I hear or see, with the intention to allow for an opportunity to explore what’s below the surface, in the hopes of developing greater awareness. This is a space for any religion, sexuality, gender, etc. I'm here to work with the human sat in front of me; with their individual experiences and perspectives.

You may be feeling stuck in patterns of anxiety, overwhelm, or low mood, or noticing how past experiences continue to affect your relationships, emotions or sense of safety. Trauma can leave the nervous system feeling constantly on edge, disconnected or caught in responses that are hard to shift alone. Therapy can offer a space to slow down, gently understand what’s happening beneath the surface and begin to feel safer and more grounded in yourself.

I have worked for many years helping my clients to accept themselves for who they are and how they survive in the hidden world that goes on inside their heads, the world where fear holds them back and keeps them stuck. The world we are all familiar with, the place we go when we put our heads on our pillows at night and we know! I believe that through honest exploration, reflection and acceptance of our past, we can start to accept ourselves and begin to build our self-esteem, self respect, our confidence and compassion for ourselves. We can embrace the parts of us that work and let go of the parts that don't, we can change.

Do you have problems with anxiety, depression or post traumatic stress symptoms? I practice Body Psychotherapy, a way of working with the body and mind which can release trauma symptoms held in the body. Often what is needed is to actually inhabit our body more and to let go of the mind and fears of the future or memories of the past. When we can more easily inhabit the present moment we can be in our body in harmony and ease. Please contact me if you resonate with any of this and also find more details on my website www.suehealerbath.co.uk I offer in person sessions and also distant sessions which can work just as well

What therapy types help with codependency problems?
Both couples and family therapy and cognitive and behavioral therapy (CBT) can help with the relationship difficulties referred to as codependency. Such problems typically include inappropriate feelings of responsibility for a loved one’s destructive behavior, irrational patterns of thinking about such behavior, and family interaction patterns in which the needs of one troubled member override the needs of others in a household.

What happens in therapy for codependency?
Spouses and family members learn and practice how to interact and support each other in a healthy way without sacrificing their own needs or well-being. They learn the limits of their responsibility for their loved ones and correct faulty patterns of thinking and feeling that underlie codependent behavior. Individuals may be encouraged to nurture an array of social relationships and to cultivate their own talents and interests so that they develop a healthy sense of self outside the family.

How does therapy help a person or couple overcome codependency?
Therapy helps people establish healthy ways of being in a relationship. Spouses and family members learn how to nurture and support one another without sacrificing their own needs or allowing the needs of one person to dominate the dynamic. Individuals learn how to say no and set boundaries, and how to maintain their own identity and self-esteem. Therapy helps people understand that they are not responsible for the feelings and actions of others. It also helps individuals deal with the turbulence that can come from living with a person suffering from such conditions as substance abuse and mental illness.

What is the goal of therapy for codependency?
One goal of therapy for codependency is to alleviate feelings of responsibility for and correct irrational patterns of thinking about loved ones whose behavioral problems override the needs of others in a household. Therapy helps people establish healthy boundaries of behavior and speak up for their own needs in a relationship. In addition, people learn how to maintain a healthy relationship, one in which both parties give and receive equally and are able to retain their own identity.
