I offer Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) and EMDR. These therapies can work well together or individually. Both are practical treatments for addressing mental health issues but work differently to each other. CBT is a skills-based approach, offering specific strategies, whereas EMDR processes trauma to help resolve current symptoms and relieve distress.

People come to psychotherapy for all kinds of different reasons. Perhaps a particular issue is making life very difficult, or maybe you have more general feelings of discontentment, unease or unhappiness that you want to address. One-to-one psychotherapy can help by providing a safe, therapeutic space in which you feel able to explore and express difficult thoughts, feelings and memories. This process of deep exploration helps you to grow and develop in areas that have previously felt stuck, painful or difficult to resolve.

Counselling can help with a wide range of issues such as bereavement, loss of purpose or identity, anxiety, depression, stress, trauma, ill health, low self-worth or self-esteem, relationship challenges or a sense of something missing in life.
Many clients comment on the value of having an hour once a week or fortnight to talk openly about their issues, being free to say whatever they wish and express any emotions without fear of offending or having opinions expressed by family members or well-meaning friends. I work either online or face-to-face from my home in Balsall Common.

I mainly specialize in the use of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and third wave therapy approaches for a range of mental health difficulties including anxiety, depression, specific phobias, OCD and health anxiety.
I stand by my organisations statement ‘Always Authentic, Always Therapeutic’. After speaking with so many clients over the years, it was disheartening to hear that people were not involved in their own care and were frequently met with practitioners who were not experienced in providing the level of psychological support they expected.

I have particular specialisms in working with relationship issues and with teenagers but I am able to help with many other difficult issues, such as anxiety, low mood and OCD.

Psychologist: Anxiety, Burnout & Trauma-Informed Therapy — Nexus Mode
You're not coping right now.
I've worked outside the NHS for over 12 years, which means the freedom to bring in new, evidence-informed approaches early rather than waiting for them to become mainstream. My work blends structured, science-backed methods with a genuinely individual approach — because no single script works for everyone.

When we are stressed, anxious, depressed or having difficulty in expressing ourselves to others, then just getting through a day can feel like an impossible task.
Talking therapy can offer a safe, non judgemental space in which you can explore your feelings, emotions and thoughts to open up new ways of thinking and being. Working creatively is helpful for some people but it is completely your choice. Therapy allows a person to gain a perspective of a situation, work towards solutions and become 'unstuck'.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.
What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.
How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.
How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
