When it comes to therapy, the process can be life changing or sometimes just very necessary. When clients need to confront issues or make changes, this can be daunting, overwhelming or even confusing. My role as a therapist is not to judge you or tell you what to do; instead I aim to help you see your situation more clearly and guide you towards your own innate wisdom. The clients I work with are ready to embark on this inner journey of transformation gaining better self-awareness, improved self-acceptance and greater authenticity.

Imagine how counselling can help you: • Sleep more easily instead of lying awake worrying • Feel calmer and more in control of your thoughts • Approach work situations with greater confidence • Understand your emotions more clearly • Feel less alone with what you’re going through Even small changes in understanding can lead to big improvements in your life
“You don’t have to be in crisis to come to counselling.” Many people believe therapy is only for when life has completely fallen apart. Many people come to counselling simply because they want to feel calmer, clearer or more able to cope with the pressures of everyday life and relationships.

I am a natural empath, and will be attuned and sensitive to your emotional needs and seek to understand your individual difficulties through your own lens, by stepping into your world in a person-centred way. I may facilitate your self-awareness and understanding of possible unconscious thoughts, fears and beliefs, by drawing from psychodynamic ideas. Or I may integrate CBT to help you identify possible unhelpful negative thinking patterns and explore new, more supportive ways in which you could respond to your difficulties, by focussing on your strengths.

When emotions feel overwhelming, whether for you or your child, it can be hard to know where to turn. You may be noticing anxiety, emotional outbursts, school refusal, or a sense that something isn’t quite right. Many parents tell me they feel worried and unsure how best to support their child. Or perhaps, as an adult, you feel stuck carrying the weight of past experiences, finding that relationships, work, or daily life feel overwhelming. I offer trauma-informed therapy and a calm, compassionate space to begin making sense of what is happening and move toward healing.

I specialise in sleep issues including in neurodivergent people.
You’re probably functioning well by most measures. You show up with family and at work, you deliver, you hold things together. But you haven’t slept properly in a long time and the gap between how you look and how you actually feel is getting harder to sustain. The 3am wake. The mind that won’t stop. The moments where you’re just not yourself with the people who matter most. Some of the people I work with are also teenagers referred by their parents, who have tried everything available to them and are still watching their capable, driven young person quietly unravel ahead of exams, worried about what this might mean for them.

There are things you feel ashamed about that you don't like thinking about, let alone talking about. I am here to help you navigate that. I do not judge or preach or tell you what you 'should' be doing. Therapy is me stepping into your experience and helping you move in the direction you want to go. As a Muslim therapist, I understand some of your context and some of the societal pressures that are upon you, I do not impose my own beliefs. I use various psychotherapeutic methods, according to your preferences and needs to help you to get to where you want to be.

Are you and your partner caught in patterns that feel impossible to move away from? Repeated misunderstandings conflicts that never quite resolve, a growing sense of disconnection — or a crossroads where you're wondering whether to stay or go? I'm a systemic psychotherapist and family therapist with over 10 years' post-qualifying experience in the NHS and a range of other clinical settings, with specialist training in RLT couples therapy. I work with couples where ways of coping that once made perfect sense — perhaps learned in childhood or earlier relationships — have become obstacles to the intimacy and connection they want now.

How effective is treatment for insomnia?
The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?
There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?
There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?
Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
