Things happen in life that catch us off guard, trauma, death of a loved one, diagnosis of an illness and more. You might pride yourself in being able to handle most of what life deals you. This feels different and it's impacting other things in your life. Whether it be your well-being, your relationships or your drive to get up in the morning. Maybe to cope your drinking or taking substances, maybe you self-harm or maybe you just can't talk to your loved ones about it. Sometimes it takes exploring the issues candidly without concern of being a burden, being judged or worried about.

Hi. I'm Jayne, counsellor and hypno-psychotherapist. I help people find their best selves, identify what it is that they need and how to achieve that. This can be reached through many different methods and with my 14 years experience I delve into my trove of knowledge and use the methods best suited to you. Everyone has it in them to know what is best for themselves; but in times of crisis, trauma, anxiety, depression and other issues it is hard to see clearly. With my help you can achieve the goals you want. I was once in a very dark place myself and a counsellor helped me, I now pass that gift forward by helping You.

Looking for a therapist is a courageous first step to make. You may be feeling uncertain of what might come next. I have found that common themes clients bring often include: • Feelings of shame and a lack of worthiness • Being very self-critical • Feeling rejected, hurt, and alone • Stuck in relationships that are not fulfilling • Feeling that your life lacks purpose • Traumatic experiences that feel like they define you • Would it help to have a space to work through these issues and to feel greater clarity in your life? If any of these issues resonate with you then you might benefit from working with myself as your therapist.

Hi, my name is Paul Robinson, a psychotherapist and counsellor based in Preston, Lancashire. I have always enjoyed working with people, helping them to overcome their difficulties and distress and to develop and grow. People have always described me as "easy to talk to" and I use this as the foundation to the friendly, empathic and non-judgemental approach I offer to my clients. It is my sincere hope that the relationship we create together becomes the space in which we can explore the challenges and distress that brings you to consider seeing a therapist, and to then be able to move on in life in a much better way.

I believe that most problematic symptoms can be the result of becoming confined in vicious cycles of repetitive negative thoughts & behaviours whether conscious or unconscious. These can have roots in childhood and can regularly impact our lives (through lifestyle choices and decision making) or sporadically emerge during stressful times. Overall, I aim to guide you to develop more insight into yourself and towards tangible fulfilment both in technical knowledge and in practical measurable successes. You can expect to find our time together enlightening, educational, emotional & authentic.

I work with adults who are living with depression, worry and anxiety. In our sessions, I will help you understand why you think and act how you do, so that you will be in a good place to decide if you want to break unhelpful thought patterns and actions that make you feel bad. We will then be able to work on strategies to change self-limiting thoughts and behaviours, so that you will feel happier and calmer.

Being unable to see a way forward and feeling trapped in your own life can lead to anxiety, stress and depression. I believe trust is the most important thing in therapy, and once established, with your consent, I will be there with you at every step of your journey out of darkness and into a brighter future. Personal therapy will allow you to take stock of your life and start questioning who you are and what you want in order to move towards a better place. Taking that journey through the therapeutic process, you will discover that although life happens out there, it is how we respond to what happens that ultimately defines us.

Have you ever felt so incredibly overwhelmed by life, like things are just too hard, that you can’t make sense of anything? Do you feel alone, invisible and unwanted most of the time? Are you struggling to find the true you? Our pathways in life often become muddled due to circumstances outside our control. This leads to a disconnection with who we really are, leaving us feeling lost, directionless and unable to trust ourselves. Counselling helps us to make sense of our struggles and reengage with who we really are and have always been.

Men's Issues Counsellors

Is therapy for men different than it is for women?

Therapeutic treatments and types are the same for men as they are for women, with the same protocols followed and the same strategies employed. Discussing one’s feelings and emotions is an integral part of most therapies, and some men find doing so more challenging. Therapists can help clients through the process; some specialize in treating men for this reason.

How do you encourage a man to go to therapy?

It’s helpful to express your concern and love for the person while framing therapy as a tool for improving their life. Offering specific examples of how an individual’s behavior affected either himself or others should be done with compassion and with empathy. It may be useful to devise a game plan—breaking the process down into parts, such as finding a therapist, making appointments, and looking into insurance coverage.

How can men prepare for therapy?

Men can prepare for therapy by approaching the process with an open mind, being willing to talk about their challenges, and giving treatment the time to work. Before a session, an individual may want to reflect on how they’ve felt since the last session and what’s happened in their lives. It can be useful for men who struggle to recall their emotional states to write down notes between sessions about their response to a given event or how they were feeling at a particular time.

What should men know about the process of therapy?

One of the most common reasons men don’t seek therapy is the notion that there’s something wrong with them if they do. Men should know that just because they’re seeking therapy doesn’t mean they’re mentally ill or damaged in some way. In the same way people work on their bodies through exercise or a craft through practice, therapy can be a way to improve the mental and emotional skills needed to be productive and effective partners, employees, and people in all realms of life.
