A good healthy relationship can enrich our lives and and provide a deep sense of fulfilment, both emotionally and physically. When relationships are not working we often feel frustrated, and confused with measurable consequences on our lives and those around us.There are many reasons why relationships become difficult or unmanageable These may be because of poor communication, arguments that are repeated or never resolved, trust issues, an affair or life stage transitions such as having children, divorce, blended families, bereavement or retirement.

I offer Outdoor Therapy to those who would like to use nature, walking and the freedom these bring into your therapy. Although I specialise in low self-esteem/confidence building, understanding and managing anxiety and body image I have experience of working in many areas of Counselling. I believe swapping a Therapy room for an outdoor setting is therapy in itself; providing a freedom to fully immerse yourself into you and your problems, thus finding a solution or an understanding of what is happening through talking as we walk. Sessions can be talking and walking or using a personal development exercise.

Wendell Berry writes: "It may be that when we no longer know what to do, we have come to our real work and when we no longer know which way to go, we have begun our real journey". I feel his poem can relate to many pivotal moments throughout an individuals life when feeling at a crossroad, overwhelmed and not knowing in which direction to go, moments I have experienced myself. But amidst the possible confusion and conflict felt, an internal whisper can be heard, guiding you to recognise your strength and lean in to trust with the deeper parts of self that intuitively know its best way forward.

Are you going through a challenging time and seeking support to make meaningful changes? Life's difficulties can feel overwhelming, especially during stressful or painful periods. While family and friends may offer well-meaning advice, it can sometimes fall short of providing the objectivity or depth of understanding you need. That's where working with a trained professional can be invaluable.

Do I Need Therapy? When someone asks themselves this question, it is generally because we’ve reached a point when our existing coping methods are not enabling us to deal with a problem situation. It is then that we seek help to understand why our familiar ways appear to be failing us. Recognising that it is not always easy to navigate through life, and that we can all sometimes benefit from a gentle, listening ear. Life can present with challenges and crises which are difficult to face alone or even with friends and family, or we just need a different perspective on a familiar problem in order to change the way we think or feel.

I have 15 years experience working with young people whom present with various anxiety disorders, depressive episodes, OCD and trauma. I was once “a young cool practitioner” within NHS services and have since worked for a private service. I must admit I am no longer the “young cool one” but instead “middle aged, experienced practitioner/ therapist”.

I work as a therapist because of the privilege of journeying with another, often through difficult territory, in the direction of self-understanding and healing. I offer both face-to-face, outdoor and online therapy. I love co-creating a healing space (indoors or outdoors) in which you can work with, and process, your concerns. I’ve been so lucky to have been practicing as a therapist, supervisor and lecturer for nearly 30 years and to bring this experience to the therapy space, along with my mindfulness training. Please reach out if you wish to discuss how my way of working may help you.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, this is not an important factor, as there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or ingrained beliefs about how people of different genders think and behave. Exploring the roots of such preferences and considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender truly matters to them.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist, either because they believe that a woman will be able to relate to their specific challenges (for example, sexism in the workplace) or because they imagine feeling more comfortable disclosing sensitive information to a woman. Such beliefs may not turn out to be accurate, however, and adhering too rigidly to a gender preference can at times hinder a client from finding the best therapeutic match.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists—both men and women—may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
