I understand that it can be hard to reach out for therapy, especially when you may be finding life tough at the moment. Or perhaps you are in a better place and have decided that you want to explore aspects of your life. Either way, please do contact me to discuss your needs. In therapy sessions I would work with you to process your past so that you can see how it impacts the present. For many there is the need to grieve for what has been lost, whilst giving the opportunity to identify and embrace your true inner self. You would strengthen ‘Adult’ you, freeing yourself to embrace life.

Struggles with distress, rumination, self-criticism, destructive and repetitive behaviours you don’t want, relationship difficulties and loss are experiences that I believe will impact all of us over the course of our lives. Finding it hard to have clarity, understanding and compassion for yourself can also make it hard to reach out to others. It can also sometimes be difficult for those closest to us to respond in a helpful way.

This may be EMDR for trauma, Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy for anxiety and a compassion-focused programme for ADHD and LGBTQIA-related issues.
Have things come to a point in your life where it just feels really difficult to carry on? Do you find that you are anxious, worrying over the future, questioning your neurodiversity? Do your thoughts drift repeatedly into the past, perhaps returning you to trauma or disappointment? Would you really like to be listened to with care and attention? Perhaps it is not advise that you need, just the opportunity to share what you’re going through, and find ways to feel better, more resilient and more able to cope. Perhaps you just want to feel more contented and at peace.

You may be feeling anxious, overwhelmed, or stuck in patterns of shame or self-doubt. You might have felt misunderstood in relationships or previous support, or experienced a sense of being different or out of place. Many people I work with are neurodivergent or have experienced relational or developmental trauma and want a space where they feel safe, accepted, and able to move at their own pace. You may want to better understand yourself, feel more emotionally grounded, and develop a kinder relationship with yourself and others.

When should I seek treatment for ADHD?
You should seek treatment for ADHD if you consistently have difficulty with attention, hyperactivity, or impulsivity that interferes with your daily life. Symptoms of ADHD include the inability to sustain attention during tasks, difficulty organizing tasks and activities, being easily distracted, frequent fidgeting or squirming, and talking or interrupting excessively. If these symptoms interfere with your career, academics, or relationships—for example, consistently failing to complete professional projects on time—you should seek an evaluation for ADHD.

How does treatment for ADHD work?
Effective treatment for ADHD often consists of medication, behavioural therapy, and lifestyle changes. Stimulant medications such as Adderall and Ritalin work by altering levels of neurotransmitters in the brain; higher levels of dopamine and norepinephrine are known to improve attention and focus. Therapy works by helping people with ADHD understand the condition, discuss their areas of difficulty, and develop behavioral strategies to manage their symptoms. In some cases, modifying one’s diet and exercise can also help improve symptoms.

How long does treatment for ADHD take?
It’s tough to give an exact time frame because everyone varies. In terms of medications, stimulants begin to work very soon after you take them, generally within the hour. It may take time to identify the right medication and dosage, but the medication itself is fast-acting. In terms of therapy, it takes time to develop skills and put them into practice, but you will likely see improvements within a few weeks or months.
