I have always been aware of, and interested in, the relationship between emotional and physical well-being. It is now widely acknowledged that the state of our mind and emotions impacts on our physical being, with our bodies expressing emotional distress as some form of ill health or disease. It is not uncommon for unwanted behaviours like smoking, drinking or eating to excess, or other forms of compulsive and addictive behaviours, to become problematic when emotional issues and psychological trauma are not addressed effectively and our needs are not met in balance.

Real change begins with a shift in direction. When life feels overwhelming or relationship patterns keep repeating, it’s natural to feel as though you’ve lost your bearings. Recognising that something needs to change is the first and most vital step toward reclaiming your path. I believe therapy shouldn’t hand you ready-made answers, but act as a catalyst for deep self-reflection while supporting your autonomy. You are the expert on your life; my role is to help you clear the way so you can move forward with clarity and confidence.

I am an integrative counsellor; psychotherapist, clinical supervisor and menopause specialist coach. My therapeutic practice is based largely on the relational approach, this means I place great emphasis on the relationship between you and I as it is our relationship which becomes the vehicle for your therapeutic journey. Each person is unique and I will draw on modalities that I feel will most suit you and the issues that you present to me. During our sessions I would like you to have as much autonomy as possible but I shall also give direction should you need it.

I am an accredited and registered play therapist (PTUK). I take referrals from schools, parents and other agencies. Play therapy is a form of child psychotherapy which can help children to process intense emotions. It can provide a safe and protected space where children can play out traumatic memories or intense feelings. Play therapy can enable children to heal from early trauma and provide them with an opportunity to build the resilience needed to function in school, their family and their community. It involves the use of the play therapy toolkit which includes; puppets, sand play, art materials, role play, stories and music.

I work with a compassion-focused therapy (CFT) approach which helps promote mental and emotional healing through encouraging those who have suffered loss to develop empathy and compassion towards oneself.
Embrace new beliefs. Most fearing, angering and blaming comes from old beliefs, expectations and stereotypes. These are programs installed from society, your up bringing and your peer groups. Loving yourself deeply and exquisitely means you explore these very important processes and let go of the expectations and stereotypes that don't support you; that were dragging you down. Let's explore this in more detail now.

You’ve spent years putting others first, being the peacemaker and people-pleaser, but inside you’re emotionally exhausted and left wondering why you feel so alone. Maybe you’re feeling invisible or like you're constantly walking on eggshells; it doesn’t have to stay this way. I work with those who feel like they put in so much more than anyone else, whether at home, with friends or at work; the dependable ones who’ve become so good at tending to others that they’ve lost touch with who they are. My clients often live their life wearing a brave face but underneath they are wondering why their life doesn’t look how they imagined.

How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
