Like adults, children & young people can struggle with mental health, feel low or find it hard to cope at times. School, family & peer issues or other life events can affect children who may not understand how they feel or why. If you're a parent seeing anger, anxiety, low-mood, self-harm or other changes in your child's behaviour I can help. Using talking, play & creative therapy I help children & young people aged 5-25, work through issues, manage thoughts, feelings & develop coping skills. I support a range of needs including SEND, plus parent support to help parents manage behaviours and improve parent-child communication.

Sometimes life can be a challenge and you just need someone to talk to. Are you feeling stressed, anxious, or feeling a bit lost? Through working together we can find ways both to help you cope and resolve immediate difficulties and to talk about the links between your past and present experiences. This will give you a deeper understanding of what you are feeling and why, broaden your sense of who you are, and enable you to make effective, positive and lasting change. This could be through the use of talking therapy, and/or application of tools and techniques to help you on your journey.

I also hold a certificate of training in couples counselling from the Couples Institute.
Are you struggling with issues related to trauma and distress, grief, addiction, anxiety, family, friendship, or relationship difficulties, issues at work, or major life changes? Maybe worries and intrusive thoughts are keeping you awake or stopping you from being able to fully concentrate. Maybe you feel in a rut, or feel an increasing loss of hope. You may be managing difficult feelings using methods that no longer work and you want to find different ways to cope. You may be functioning well on a day-to-day basis but struggle with inner conflicts and turmoil or have repetitive negative experiences which you would like to explore.

Within my counselling practice I work with individuals and intimate partner relationships.
I am a Psychosexual and Relationship Therapist working within a pluralistic modality. Originally I trained as an Integrative Counsellor, qualifying in 2017 and have been working in a therapeutic capacity since 2015. The key to the way I work is in the relationship we build with each other, to facilitate exploring your thinking, feelings and experience. I work in a person centred way which is pluralistic, meaning I have a range of training, research based inter and experience to draw upon. I believe that you are the expert in your own feelings and experience, although you may not be feel like an expert in yourself at times.

I have specialist training in couples therapy.
Do you feel overwhelmed by your thoughts & feelings? Are you feeling anxious? Are you suffering from stress and feel “burnt out”? Do you wonder how to manage those constant thought patterns which go round & round in your head, stopping you from being able to think clearly? What would it feel like to offload and release that pressure without feeling judged or being offered well-meaning advice that just isn’t right for you? Imagine that sense of building upon your self-esteem as you learn to trust your gut feeling and know instinctively what is right for you to enable that change to happen?

The client is the most important person in a counselling relationship, my job is to help you feel valued, and understood so you also believe this. My ideal client will want to work towards processing their feelings, achieving their goals and be willing to work with me to make this happen. I like to work with clients that are struggling with making sense of life. Feeling unable to move on from past experiences, having that space and time to reflect and process things can make a huge difference. I enjoy cultivating an environment to help my clients work through life's challenges.

Marriage Counselling
How does marriage counseling work?
Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?
Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?
Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?
Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
