I have been around the block a few times myself - climbed out of my own paralysing depression , dealt with disabling anxiety for the first 22 years of my life too.
Life is tough. The world can be a very harsh and unforgiving place indeed. Above all I work with kindness, acceptance and understanding - successful therapy always depends upon a partnership between you and me, both/all of us working purposefully together to solve the issues that are in your way - let's face it, there is simply not enough of those three qualities around these days. It is never a failure to reach out for help - never. It takes courage. So please reach out: I promise to take your hand, keep you safe, and together we'll walk the path to better days.

People come to see a counsellor for different reasons. For you, it may be because you have noticed you are feeling very anxious or depressed or struggling with panic attacks. You may be experiencing difficulties in your relationships or having to deal with your own anger or other peoples. Perhaps you are a parent looking for someone for your teenager to talk through problems they are facing in their lives. There may have been a recent event in your life which you are struggling to deal with such as a bereavement or the ending of a relationship. Or perhaps you would just like to talk and be listed to.

I am a psychologist specialising in working with clients who have experienced trauma, have emotional difficulties and struggle to cope. You may have a range of symptoms such as flashbacks, nightmares, depression , hopelessness, anxiety; you may avoid people or situations that trigger distressing memories; you may not feel safe, you may be hyper vigilant and have learnt to survive the only way you can. Having these experiences can make you distrust yourself and the world, you feel unsafe in your body and withdraw from others. Healing from trauma is about restoring that sense of safety so you can rejoin the world again.

We all experience times of difficulty in our lives, when events or relationships feel overwhelming, or we can feel a loss of direction or purpose. Sometimes this can lead to anxiety and feeling low or depressed . Talking to a trained professional helps us make sense of those challenging times and offers a way through them, moving towards a better understanding of ourselves and our feelings.

Depression Counsellors
Depressive disorders are characterized by persistent feelings of sadness and worthlessness and a lack of desire to engage in formerly pleasurable activities. Depression is not a passing blue mood, which almost everyone experiences from time to time, but a complex mind/body illness that interferes with everyday functioning. It not only darkens one's outlook, it is commonly marked by sleep problems and changes in energy levels and appetite. It alters the structure and function of nerve cells so that it disrupts the way the brain processes information and interprets experience.

Despite feelings of hopelessness and worthlessness, depression is a treatable condition. It can be treated with psychotherapy by depression counsellors in Peterborough. As with many illnesses, the earlier treatment begins, the more effective it can be and the greater the likelihood that recurrence can be prevented.

Psychotherapy addresses the thinking patterns that precipitate depression, and studies show that it prevents recurrence. Drug therapy is often helpful in relieving symptoms, such as severe anxiety, so that people can engage in meaningful psychotherapy.
