As a humanistic counsellor you are at the centre of my practice. Working with children and adults I provide a safe and accepting space to explore and empower your decisions. I understand that life can feel confusing, isolating and some events can bring up emotions you had boxed away, leaving you feeling overwhelmed. You might feel that you have lost sight of who you are or that people just do not hear you. Big life changes especially in childhood have such an impact on us, and it is about seeing these patterns and deciding if you want to change them.

Life can be complex and challenging at times. We may feel anxious, sad, lost or overwhelmed by our relationship, work, loss of a loved one, lack of confidence or low self-worth. We may find ourselves struggling with depression, insecurity, lack of sleep, infidelity, shame, infertility and we lose hope that we'll ever feel differently again. It's at times like these that you may have wondered how psychotherapy can help you. You may feel nervous about seeking help, which is quite normal. However, you'll find a relaxed and warm atmosphere while working with me.

People see you as strong and steady. You’ve learned to hold it all together. But when you’re finally alone, the mask comes off and the battle you hide begins: the thoughts that spiral, the emotional storms, the obsessions and the addictions you never talk about and the old family patterns that still pull the strings. You function, yes, but the emotional cost is real. If you’re ready to stop pretending and break free, keep reading. You don’t have to do this alone.

We are all unique individuals. I see people who suffer from anxiety, depression, addictions, relationship difficulties and trauma as well as other difficulties. I will aim to help you make sense of what is currently going on for you and then to set goals or a way forward.. I believe that clients need to experience compassion and kindness as well as often, a structured way of working with specific difficulties. If structure is less of a goal and need, I aim to provide a settling in which trust is foremost and so creating a safe space to talk about difficult emotions.

There are times when what once made sense no longer does — when loss, change, or exhaustion leave you holding more than you can carry. You might be grieving someone, something, or even the version of yourself who kept going. You may be realising how much you’ve adapted to fit in, or how tired you are of coping alone. Therapy can be a space to exhale — where nothing has to be held together and you can begin to feel met, not managed.

You look like you're holding it all together but inside you're exhausted. I work with overwhelmed working mums who are juggling careers, kids, guilt and everyone else's emotions, and quietly wondering why does it feel this hard? Maybe you’re the one who always keeps it together, the one who smooths things over or keeps control, but lately it’s been feeling impossible. You don’t want to repeat the patterns you grew up with but you're scared that changing things will damage the relationships you care about. I help you slow things down, make sense of your reactions and start showing up in ways that feel more like you.

We all encounter difficult times in life. The loss of loved ones, relationship breakdown, difficulties at work, and poor physical health, for example, may have a huge impact on our ability to function. During these times we may find it difficult to cope and struggle to know what to do to feel better.

Female Counsellors
Does it matter what gender my therapist is?
In general, there is no relationship between a therapist’s gender and their efficacy. Some clients, however, prefer to see therapists of a particular gender, whether due to their own past experiences with men and women, or because they feel more comfortable with a therapist of their own gender due to shared life experiences or perspectives. Considering what one wants to address in therapy can help someone determine whether their therapist’s gender may matter or improve their therapeutic experience. The most important consideration is that a client is able to build a trusting relationship with their therapist.
Should I see a female therapist?
Many people—not just women—prefer to see a female therapist. For women, this could be because they believe that they will be able to better connect with a woman, and that a female therapist will be able to relate to their specific challenges and personal issues. It may be particularly beneficial for women to see a female therapist, for example, for gender-specific issues, such as sexism in the workplace, relationship issues, and gender roles. The most important factor in therapy is the client-therapist connection, and a therapist's gender as well as many other factors may play an important role in this.
Do therapists get specific training to help with women’s concerns?
Therapists are trained to provide care to clients of any gender. However, some therapists may pursue additional training in feminist therapy, gender-specific issues, or women’s mental health. Female clients may wish to ask prospective therapists whether they have received specific training in the client’s primary area(s) of concern, or whether they have worked extensively with women on issues similar to their own.
How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience in treating women?
It’s OK—even encouraged!—to ask a therapist directly whether and how often they have treated women in the past, or whether they have treated women dealing with the client’s most prominent concern(s). Competent therapists will be happy to share their educational background, preferred treatment modalities, and prior client experience to help an individual find the therapist best suited to their needs.
