I work as the Clinical Director for Therapeutic Support Services whilst also seeing clients individually. I work with clients who are seeking a deeper, trauma-informed, compassionate therapeutic approach that moves beyond symptom management. Clients often come to therapy experiencing anxiety, depression, addiction, emotional overwhelm or the lasting impact of trauma. My approach works deeply with what arises in the present moment within the therapeutic relationship, supporting what is already emerging so together we can facilitate the organic healing process, allowing a return to your core state of inherent wellbeing.

My approach is grounded in Psychodynamic Psychotherapy and is also informed by Ecotherapy, using eco-friendly and non-toxic art materials.
Sometimes it can be difficult to say how we feel. Sometimes we may not know what we are feeling, let alone how to articulate this. Art Therapy is a form of psychotherapy that uses art-making as its main mode of expression and communication; art is not used as a diagnostic tool but as a medium to explore and address confusing or distressing feelings and behaviours that may not be revealed using words alone. By awakening your creativity, Art Therapy can help you to connect with yourself in order to better understand your emotions and relationships within the world, leading to positive change.

I will help you understand the psychology behind your reactions, why you shut down, feel unheard, repeat old patterns, or experience emotions that seem bigger than the moment. Together we explore what’s happening underneath, in both mind and body. My work blends trauma‑informed therapy with practical tools that help you regulate, make sense of your responses, and change how you move through difficult situations, not just how you think about them.

Psychodynamic therapy aims for lasting change.
You may feel stuck in repeating patterns in relationships, struggle with anxiety, or carry a persistent sense of self-criticism without understanding why. Our early experiences may continue to influence how we feel and relate to ourselves and others in the present but we may only be partially aware of these internal dynamics.

Many people come to therapy feeling stuck in patterns that are hard to shift – ways of thinking, feeling, or relating to themselves and others. These experiences can show up in lots of different ways, such as being overly self-critical, feeling anxious or overwhelmed, feeling low, or finding relationships more difficult than they’d like. If this resonates, it’s completely understandable. Patterns often begin as natural responses to past experiences. They may have supported you then, even if they’re creating challenges in the present.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
