If you are suffering from symptoms related to PTSD or complex PTSD, EMDR therapy can help to alleviate your symptoms. Clients working with me using EMDR have found that their symptoms such as flashbacks and/or being unable to go to certain places can be alleviated or reduced to the point where they are manageable. This work is supported with self help techniques to manage new anxieties as and when they may present themselves, but from a new and more adaptive perspective. I also offer the Safe and Sound Protocol alongside therapy sessions for those clients who wish to work in a polyvagal informed way.

We all experience difficulties occasionally and life can be challenging sometimes. Finding a therapist that is right for you is key, particularly because mutually nourishing relationships with others are essential for your emotional wellbeing. Hello, my name is Ash. I am a qualified counsellor, working one to one with clients at my office in the heart of Cranbrook. My approach and training is integrative, which means the kind of therapy I offer draws from a variety of different theoretical approaches. Every therapeutic relationship is unique, and your preferences to how we work are key.
My aim is to offer you an opportunity to explore what you need in a safe and contained space, without judgement. However, I am not a ‘nodding dog’ or ‘blank screen’ type of therapist. I will work hard alongside you, to be an active partner in this process.

There are times in life when we all need input from someone outside our immediate circle of family and friends to help us address what is challenging us.
It may be you are feeling low, anxious or stressed. It might be you are having difficulties in your relationships with others. Or, you find it hard to connect and feel isolated or alone. You may be affected by a health condition that impacts your mood. Or you may be struggling to process feelings of grief after a bereavement or other loss.
Navigating these matters can feel challenging and overwhelming. But tackling them with support can make them more manageable.

Are there issues in your life, past or present, that you haven't addressed. Are these issues preventing you from moving forward in your life, relationship or work. I am a trained Counsellor with eleven years experience. it is a requirement to undergo our own individual therapy when training therefore I am very aware that one of the most important decisions, in choosing a therapist, is to be able to connect with them. I am also aware, having been on the other side of the room how difficult it can be to open up our lives, past and present, to a stranger. Reaching out for help at a difficult time in our lives is not easy.

Do you feel stuck in painful, repeating patterns - either in yourself or in your relationships? You might notice the same conflicts coming up, perhaps one of you pursues while the other withdraws, leaving you feeling disconnected, rejected, overwhelmed or more like roommates than partners.
I work with individuals and couples to understand the deeper patterns, needs, fears and motivations driving persistent cycles. I help you make sense of what’s happening beneath the surface, so you can build the tools you need for real change. And eventually, you start to feel more connected, secure, and at ease in yourself and your relationships.

Anxiety, depression, loneliness, stress, relationship and family conflict.. I recognise the pressures of today’s world and the difficulties we often face reconciling our inner needs with the demands of a busy life and the people we share it with. I am an experienced and mature counsellor and psychotherapist, who retrained in this field after 20 years working in a corporate environment. My experience includes work within the NHS and the Samaritans, where I have seen how easily we can lose ourselves and struggle to cope, and how important it is to find a person or place where we can speak openly and be heard without judgement.

My ideal client often feels stuck in patterns they cannot shift alone. Sessions often take place indoors with my friendly cat nearby. You might be struggling with dating, recovering from heartbreak, or finding communication difficult in a relationship. Many people I work with are also navigating ADHD or autism and feel misunderstood. You want clarity, confidence and healthier ways of connecting with others.

FAQ - About Adult Counselling
Why should adults see a therapist?
Adults may benefit from therapy for a wide range of reasons—whether it’s managing symptoms of a diagnosed mental health condition like anxiety or depression, navigating life transitions, coping with grief or trauma, or simply seeking support during a challenging life period. Many adults find that therapy helps them build healthier coping skills and better process their emotions, which may lead to better relationships and reduced stress. It’s important to note that, unlike psychiatrists or primary care physicians, therapists do not prescribe psychiatric medication. However, they will often work alongside prescribing clinicians to ensure coordinated care and can provide behavioural therapy as an important addition to psychiatric medication. Mental health concerns can look different in adulthood than in childhood or adolescence, so finding a therapist with expertise working with adult clients is important. Conditions like major depressive disorder (MDD), generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), bipolar disorder, and post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for instance, may present or resurface differently in adulthood than in childhood or adolescence. Adult-specific stressors, such as job strain, caregiving responsibilities, relationship challenges, financial stress, or identity transitions, can also influence the onset and type of symptoms an individual experiences. Adult-focused therapists, therefore, are trained to understand these complexities and tailor care accordingly.
How do I know if a therapist is the right fit for me?
When seeking care, it’s important to understand a therapist’s treatment specialties and their overall approach to treatment . Some therapists focus on common adult conditions like anxiety or depression, while others specialize in areas such as trauma, substance use disorders, or obsessive-compulsive disorder. It’s also important to consider a therapist’s training when seeking care. Therapists in the UK hold various credentials depending on their training and regional requirements. Counsellors and Psychotherapists registered with the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) receive the designation MBACP and their qualifications and practice are overseen by BACP. Many Psychologists registered with the British Psychological Society receive the title of Chartered Psychologist (CPsychol), signifying that they have completed postgraduate training and supervised practice. All of these professionals can provide talk therapy but do not prescribe medication. When searching for a therapist, consider their credentials and training background to ensure a good fit.
How do I find a therapist who sees adults?
Psychology Today’s online directory allows you to search specifically for therapists who work with adults. Each provider profile includes key information such as clinical specialties, therapeutic approaches, licensure, accepted insurance plans, languages spoken, and session fees. Reviewing these details can help you determine whether a particular provider aligns with your needs and can indicate whether they are a good match for adult clients.
