Are you used to performing at a high level, while feeling overwhelmed or exhausted underneath? You might be used to pushing through, while feeling burnt out, stuck, or hard on yourself beneath the surfaceI work with high-achieving professionals and others in demanding roles who are used to pushing through, yet feel burnt out, stuck, or caught in patterns they can’t shift. You might notice overthinking, a strong inner critic, or difficulty slowing down even when you need to. I offer online therapy across the UK, helping you understand what’s driving these patterns and feel steadier, more resilient, and more like yourself again.

In my Central Oxford practice I provide psychotherapy for individuals and couples. Currently most of my work is with clients interested in changing their lives to align with their sense of who they are, rather than be guided by expectations and pleasing others. I also work with people who have experienced trauma, including with a PTSD diagnosis, helping them to process the trauma and reduce unwanted symptoms. I help couples to reset their relationships to a healthier state, to hear and understand each other and to make joint decisions about the future of their relationship and their family system.

I’m Sarah, a registered Integrative Psychotherapist and Hypnotherapist. I combine hypnotherapy and psychotherapy to work with parts of you that became stuck in protective roles during stressful or traumatic experiences. These parts can show up as anxiety, panic, shut-down, depression, people-pleasing or addiction amongst other things, diverting you from core emotions. Though once helpful, these responses are often outdated and feel hard to change. In a light trance state, we gently bring awareness to emotions and body responses, helping unprocessed feelings be safely witnessed and worked through.

I have significant experience working with teenagers facing mental and emotional health challenges, particularly young victims of crime. My approach is centered on helping young people feel safe within themselves and the world around them. Having mentored students at Oxford University for five years, I also offer a mentoring service when appropriate. I work uniquely with each individual, and with a deep understanding of family dynamics, I always consider the wider family context in supporting an individual’s growth and well-being.

I provide focused therapy that will help you to see your patterns and emotions as well as moral and ethical challenges arising from interpersonal and social contexts better, to then allow you to change them. Obstacles to change are very subtle, often almost invisible. Self-awareness can redirect your energies to creating more positive states of mind. We will work on how ethical and moral dilemmas arise between people, how this interacts with different life experiences that impact your personality and how that then affects your psychological well being.

I work using art & movement, and draw on myths, stories and theory, whatever interests you.
You may seem to the world to be successful, sure of yourself, and in control whilst feeling increasingly isolated as you battle, perhaps in secret, with your fear, anxiety, loneliness or past. You may sense that part of you is hidden, maybe even from yourself, tripping you up when it matters most, that your life is not quite what you hoped or your choices are unfulfilling. You may wish to know your own heart, to be on your own side, and to be able engage authentically and meaningfully with your life. Working together we can listen out for your quiet inner voice, the one that already knows you and already knows how to be.

I offer counselling and therapeutic coaching. Clients will come to me with a range of problems and often feel some confusion and simply need to talk. In our work we will clarify the problem and see what is most challenging for you at the present time. We will discover where this confusion arises in the body and mind and begin to understand where it began: Perhaps this has been triggered in the past: by an environment, people, a person, upbringing etc. The work we do is compassionate and kind. My purpose is to help you find your way out of the confusion and suffering, so you can find purpose, meaning and peace in your life.

I am an HCPC registered Art Psychotherapist and can work traditionally using words or we can use creative processes such as 2D or 3D art-making, the written word or music.
The goal is for you to gain a deeper understanding of yourself and the multitudinal elements to your mind that may be causing you undue stress or anxiety. In this way, we can seek to change the relationship you have with the more challenging aspects of yourself to encourage greater self-knowledge and quality of life.

It is my belief that we all have very unique and individual reasons and circumstances surrounding our issues and that taking the step to share them with someone else can be intimidating. Which is why I am open to working in a non-judgemental way, with anyone who feels they want to share their thoughts and feelings in a safe and nurturing environment. I offer face to face or online video counselling via Zoom because I realise that not everyone wants to be in the same room as their therapist or are able to travel.

Hello, and thank you for reading my profile. Are you looking for long-term, in-depth, psychotherapy? Or do you have a particular issue you need to explore in counselling? Perhaps you're a qualified practitioner looking for a clinical supervisor. I could be that person for you, if we find we are a good fit. Whichever best describes you, my work is underpinned with an understanding of spirituality as a personal jorney into the nature of suffering. I think of spirituality as a pathway to self-development. Specifically, I work with mindfulness and Buddhist psychology to explore your current state of being, in mind, body and spirit.

How does art therapy work?
The process of making art allows people to express themselves. Art-making can take many forms, such as painting, collage, or sculpting. The therapist asks questions that the work elicits, such as how the person felt while creating their piece, or if any memories surfaced that they can discuss. The therapist will then work with the patient to process their experience, understand themselves better, and work toward change.

Does art therapy help with trauma?
Art therapy can be a valuable treatment option for those suffering from trauma. Traumatic experiences such as combat, rape, or childhood abuse can be so painful that articulating them can be too scary or painful; creating art allows people to express themselves without words, and tell their story in a different way. The physical nature of creating art can also help people feel rooted in the body, which may benefit those who feel disconnected from their body in the aftermath of trauma.

How long does art therapy last?
The duration of art therapy varies, but a common length for treatment is 10 to 15 weekly sessions. Some people may see improvement in just a few weeks, while others may choose to remain in therapy longer term. Patients should periodically discuss their goals with their therapist to make sure the two are aligned on process and progress.

What are the limitations of art therapy?
Art therapy is helpful for many people, but a limitation is that it doesn’t have as robust an evidence base as other forms of therapy, such as cognitive behavioural therapy or acceptance and commitment therapy. The evidence on art therapy is mixed; some research demonstrates its benefits, while other research suggests that it has little impact on patients.
