Where you have the opportunity to express and explore your emotions in the Scenic and calming surroundings of nature. Please note the Fee for Walk and Talk is set at £50 per session.

As a very experienced Counsellor (qualified 1998) and Physical Therapist (Pilates Instructor qualified 1984) I have an innate interest in and deep respect for people. My mission has been to support and work with my clients in assisting them in achieving their healing and wellness. Often it helps to be listened to and it is important to understand why things are the way they are. Perhaps you feel "stuck"and are at a loss to know how to deal with a difficult situation - or it may be that you are having difficulties in relationships with other people.

I have 20+ years experience working with a broad range of Trauma (PTSD/CPTSD/Childhood Development) presentations and therefore Compulsivity/Addiction issues as well as anxiety and depression.
Ultimately, good therapy should make change: reactions, behaviours, difficult aspects of self, attitudes/beliefs about yourself or how you carry your story. I love work to with clients who are prepared to jump in, take risks and be proactive - this is the way to ensure real change. I jump in too, working with body and mind in a practical, energetic way. I view the best wisdom as something that can directly be applied to life. A supervisee described me as "real, relational, practical and not floaty/wispy". I like to incorporate psychoeducation and relevant theoretical information. I don't sit on my hands or allow unhelpful silences.

Whether you are suffering from anxiety, depression, relationship issues or one of life's many other challenges, counselling can help to make sense of what's going on and support you in making positive changes to overcome them.
My training included a range of methods and this allows me to tailor an approach that meets your needs as an individual. More than anything, however, the feedback I have received from clients talks about the benefits of the relationship; the sense of humour, the trust and genuine connection that allowed them to explore issues at a much deeper level.

I work particularly with anxiety, depression, trauma and loss; loss of belonging and cultural identity as well as loss through bereavement including childhood bereavement.
With experience in supporting people through loss and bereavement both in private practice and as part of the bereavement counselling team at a leading London Hospice, I am interested in making room to process loss and how it shapes our stories, particularly the losses we may have experienced in childhood.

You hold it together for everyone else, but underneath you’re exhausted, anxious or carrying too much.
I bring a wealth of life experience alongside my professional training. Before becoming a counsellor, I served in the military, where I learned a great deal about resilience, pressure and the importance of feeling properly supported.

Anxiety, internal criticism, low self-esteem, depression thrive if we're not heard, understood and valued.
I trained in an integrative approach, allowing me to use a range of relational, cognitive and psychodynamic skills. We work within a trusting, mutually-respectful, collaborative therapeutic relationship where anything that troubles you can be explored. Therapy can be tough sometimes, it can also be life changing.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?
Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

What are the most common types of treatment for anxiety?
Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioural therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioural Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?
The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?
Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
