If you’ve landed here, chances are you’re tired. And not just the “really need a nap” kind of tired, but the deep, soul-level exhaustion that comes from trying to hold everything together for too long. Maybe you’re living with chronic illness, trauma, or the quieter kind of pain that’s harder to name but just as heavy to carry. Maybe you’ve spent years being “the strong one” for everyone else and now there’s nothing left in the tank for you. Whatever shape your story takes, you deserve a place to finally tell it and gently set down the weight you’ve been carrying, even if it's just for a little while.

There are many reasons people decide to start therapy. They're feeling lost, their purpose in life has just left for university, redundancy and unemployment has left a sense of uncertainty. Grief rears it's head when least expected, close friends become acquaintances, hobbies no longer interest them. They feel unappreciated, worthless. Not good enough. These are all reasons my clients have walked through my door. And in fairness, the same can be said for myself. Life knocks us when we least expect it, talking about it can help.

I often use Psychodynamic therapy to gain an understanding of what is causing individual issues.
Hi, my name is Alison Bamforth-Jenkins, and I am an Integrative psychotherapist trained to work with children, adults, couples and families. Our brain is at the heart of how we express ourselves and how we experience the world. But sometimes it's difficult to switch off or it can feel a little stuck...whether that's through trauma, anxiety, addiction, or relationship difficulties. I'm here to support you - or your child - in finding a positive way to move past the challenges you are facing. For children who may not yet have the words to express how they feel, I also offer play-based or art-based therapy.

Ex military, now multi skilled therapist. The military provided me with valuable insights and experiences. Vast exposure, witnessing various traumas and mental health impacts highlighted the importance of mental health suport and the benefit of it to others. Having supported others for years through issues such as suicide, abuse, sexual vilence, domestic violence, depression, anxiety, selfharm, neglect, relational conflict, PTSD and the impacts of bereavement I wanted to continue similar support throughy therapy.

Although my understanding of the psychology of human behavior is primarily rooted in a psychodynamic perspective, I often draw on the principals and techniques of various therapeutic modalities such as CBT, DBT, BWRT and Motivational Interviewing so as to best cater to the unique needs and preferences of my individual clients.
If you’ve been wondering whether ADHD might be part of your life, you’re not alone & we’re here to help you explore it. At the UK Practice, our neuroaffirmative approach to ADHD assessment & diagnosis means that we take time to understand how ADHD shows up in your life, whether it’s affecting your work, relationships, or personal sense of self. Once diagnosed, our comprehensive reports and feedback can guide post-diagnostic services, including gaining access to medical services. You’re not just left with a label but equipped with practical strategies and coping tools that empower you to thrive.

Many of the people I work with are men who have spent a long time carrying things on their own. They may be navigating stress, anxiety, burnout, relationship difficulties, fatherhood, grief, or feeling disconnected from themselves. I also work with neurodivergent adults, including autistic and ADHD clients exploring identity, masking and life after diagnosis. Some people come because of a specific crisis, while others simply know that life no longer feels the way they hoped it would. Together we create a warm, grounded space where you can speak honestly and begin to feel more like yourself.

I work with individuals who are often seen by others as capable and composed yet feel overwhelmed beneath the surface. Many experience anxiety, overthinking, low mood, or a persistent sense of self doubt. It’s common to feel caught in patterns of people pleasing, perfectionism, self criticism, or challenging relationships, which can leave you feeling drained and disconnected. I offer a supportive, reflective space for self aware individuals who want to understand themselves more deeply and find a steadier way forward through life’s difficulties.

Psychodynamic Counsellors
Is psychodynamic therapy evidence-based?
Studies have found psychodynamic therapy to be effective in treating conditions like social anxiety, eating disorders, chronic pain, some personality disorders, and depression; indeed, some studies have found it to be just as effective as CBT or medication. What’s more, several studies have found that the benefits of psychodynamic therapy tend to endure—even grow—long after treatment has ended.

How long does psychodynamic therapy last?
Unlike CBT and other more structured forms of therapy, psychodynamic therapy tends to be open-ended and may not be limited to a set number of sessions. It is common for clients to be in therapy for a year or longer and to see their therapist one to three times a week, though the exact schedule and timeline may vary depending on a client’s challenges and progress. However, brief psychodynamic therapy is available, which tends to be more goal-oriented and typically unfolds over 16 to 30 sessions.

Does psychodynamic therapy work?
Research finds that psychodynamic therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of diagnosable mental health conditions like depression or anxiety. The modality may also offer a range of benefits that are harder to measure but just as valuable—such as increased self-worth or healthier relationships. While no therapy type will work for everyone, research and anecdotal evidence suggest that psychodynamic therapy can be highly effective.

What are the limitations of psychodynamic therapy?
Some meta-analyses have concluded that there is little evidence to suggest that psychodynamic therapy can effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as PTSD, OCD, or psychosis, though it is sometimes used to do so. More broadly, the open-ended, free-association structure of psychodynamic therapy may be frustrating for clients who prefer a more structured, time-limited, or goal-oriented approach.
