Hi, I'm Dr Lauren Atherton. Here at Pine Banks Psychology, I provide 1:1 talking therapy for adults experiencing a range of difficulties including anxiety, stress and low mood. Perhaps you feel you are used to 'coping well', but things feel harder to manage lately. You may have noticed finding it difficult to 'switch off' from overthinking and self-criticism, 'appear fine' to others but feel overwhelmed internally, or be finding it more difficult to balance competing demands at work and home. I work with compassion and warmth to help us develop a shared understanding of your experiences and to help you meet your goals.

For women who did everything "right" and still feel exhausted, unseen, and alone. Let's find our way back to you! Maybe you did the diet, the degree, the job, the wedding, the house — everything that was supposed to add up to happiness — and somewhere in it, you went missing. Maybe you're single, doing everything "right," but not being chosen or keep hearing your standards are too high. Either way, you're exhausted, disappointed and you don't have anyone to say that out loud to. Perhaps you gave everything to your partner or marriage for it to end in separation or divorce and now you feel totally lost and full of grief.

Hi there. Thank you for looking at my profile. I specialise in working with adults who are struggling to accept and come to terms with potentially life-changing neurological conditions such as stroke (including aphasia), TIAs, Parkinson’s, epilepsy, and those who are neurodiverse. I am also a qualified clinical hypnotherapist, and hypnotherapy can be offered either as a standalone approach or integrated into counselling sessions where appropriate and with your consent. It can be difficult to talk to those close to us for a variety of reasons, but sometimes we simply need to be heard without judgement or fear of hurting our loved one

If you’ve landed here, chances are you’re tired. And not just the “really need a nap” kind of tired, but the deep, soul-level exhaustion that comes from trying to hold everything together for too long. Maybe you’re living with chronic illness, trauma, or the quieter kind of pain that’s harder to name but just as heavy to carry. Maybe you’ve spent years being “the strong one” for everyone else and now there’s nothing left in the tank for you. Whatever shape your story takes, you deserve a place to finally tell it and gently set down the weight you’ve been carrying, even if it's just for a little while.

Life has a way of presenting us with difficulties—whether it’s a tough beginning in childhood, an unexpected stressful event, a traumatic experience, or the ongoing demands of parenting. These experiences can feel overwhelming, and it’s natural for them to impact our mental health, daily life, and relationships. I offer a supportive space where you can talk openly and honestly without judgment. I will listen with care and work collaboratively with you to explore your challenges, strengths, and goals.

My approach is grounded in Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), augmented by elements of Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy ( ACT) and Attachment Theory.
Hi there, I'm Chris. Have you or a loved one been struggling to cope with anxiety, feeling overwhelmed or low? Maybe social situations are difficult to face, or work and studies are harder to manage? Perhaps you've been experiencing really difficult unwanted and intrusive thoughts, or feeling driven to repeat certain actions. Doing the things that you used to be able to do maybe just feels too heavy. If you're a loved one, maybe you've noticed your young person change from how they used to be. If any of this sounds familiar, I can help by providing a safe and open space to support you in overcoming these challenges.

I believe that most problematic symptoms can be the result of becoming confined in vicious cycles of repetitive negative thoughts & behaviours whether conscious or unconscious. These can have roots in childhood and can regularly impact our lives (through lifestyle choices and decision making) or sporadically emerge during stressful times. Overall, I aim to guide you to develop more insight into yourself and towards tangible fulfilment both in technical knowledge and in practical measurable successes. You can expect to find our time together enlightening, educational, emotional & authentic.

I offer EMDR, CAT, CBT, ACT, and CFT in English and Spanish.
I specialise in helping people with long-standing trauma and anxiety, who feel stuck in patterns of intrusive thoughts, persistent worries, self-criticism, and regret. Often, there are multiple overlapping difficulties that have affected identity, confidence, relationships, or daily life. I work with people who benefit from longer-term therapy, consistent appointments, and an individualised treatment plan that may involve one therapeutic approach or a carefully integrated combination of therapies. So, if previous therapy didn't brought the change you hoped, if you've felt unheard and unseen, you may be exactly who I work best with.

Our work may involve exploring emotional patterns and relationship dynamics while using practical tools informed by ACT, mindfulness, positive psychology and schema-informed approaches to support meaningful and lasting change.
Sometimes it looks like you’re managing just fine - capable, responsible, the one others rely on. But inside you may feel anxious, overwhelmed, stuck, disconnected, or questioning what comes next. You might be carrying grief, burnout, relationship difficulties, or moving through a life transition that has shifted your sense of self. I work with individuals and couples, many of whom are professionals, creatives, leaders, and public-facing or high-profile individuals navigating pressure, visibility, and responsibility. Therapy offers space to slow down, understand what’s happening beneath the surface, and feel less alone in it.

Hiya, I’m Lennie. I work with teenagers, young adults, and the grown-ups they’ve become. The ones who never quite fit the mould and are tired of pretending they do. I help teens carve out their identity in a world full of labels while supporting the parents and professionals navigating the chaos with them. Life with the people you care about should be something you enjoy, not just survive. Let’s face it, keeping your head down and pretending everything’s fine won’t get you anywhere. Together, we’ll tackle what you’ve been avoiding, rewrite the rules to suit you, rebuild your confidence, and create a life that finally fits.

Acceptance and Commitment (ACT) Counsellors
How does acceptance and commitment therapy work?
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy encourages a person to listen to their self-talk. A person’s inner dialog can be indicative of how they treat themselves. ACT also encourages self-compassion; this can lead to a better understanding of negative thought patterns and emotional states. This understanding can then lead the individual to needed behavior change.

What are the goals of acceptance and commitment therapy?
The goal of acceptance and commitment is to expand a person’s psychological flexibility, a trait that encourages an individual to live in the present moment and to accept all their thoughts, feelings, and emotions, even ones that are difficult such as sadness and anxiety. In ACT, this acceptance is congruent with the individual’s values and beliefs.

Does acceptance and commitment therapy work for depression?
Acceptance and commitment therapy is effective for depression because it allows the individual to view their discomfort and suffering differently. Depressive feelings about relationship heartaches, for example, are a part of life. A despondent person learns to let go of their struggles and instead view their painful thoughts and feelings with compassion. This will lead the individual toward positive change.

How long are people typically in acceptance and commitment therapy?
A typical acceptance and commitment therapy session is 50 minutes long with one session per week. Treatment for common problems such as anxiety, depression, or relationship difficulties can last between eight weeks to four months. However, more severe cases may require more than one session a week and/or a longer time frame for treatment.
