There are many reasons why you might reach out for counselling such as a challenging life event, transitional periods, seeking self -discovery or wanting to manage anxiety. Finding the right counsellor to share difficult thoughts and feelings with can be incredibly daunting. Studies show that the most important factor in the success of your treatment is your relationship with your therapist and the experience of feeling felt and heard. I provide a safe and compassionate environment that helps guide you towards your goals.

My therapy approach has been particularly effective with clients with low-self esteem, depression, worry, OCD, trauma experiences and social anxiety. Irrespective of the presenting problem, I have found that actively listening to an individual is fundamental to any successful treatment.

Are you finding life challenging? It may feel like something is holding you back, or perhaps you can’t feel yourself really living. You may have developed coping mechanisms that are negatively impacting your life. Maybe there are parts of you that feel disconnected, numb or shut down whilst you function through your daily life. Talking can be hard to do, even with those around you. I work alongside clients using symbol and metaphor to gently identify experiences that words are difficult to define. I help people with stress, panic attacks, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, sexual abuse, PTSD/CPTSD, OCD and much more.

I work with a number of difficulties that include for example depression, a range of anxiety disorders, including OCD and panic, interpersonal problems, and health challenges.
We all confront struggles at some stage in our lives, and overcoming these can feel like a challenge. There may be challenges with our internal world, in our relationships, or we may experience a significant life event that means we start to feel ‘stuck’. This can lead to feeling a lack of self-confidence and to feelings of self-doubt. I understand that taking that first step to talk to someone can be difficult, and thus I create a safe space that encourages you to feel supported and heard. I believe in the importance of working alongside you as part of a journey to increased self-development and overall improved well-being.

Life can be really difficult at times for all of us and sometimes problems can feel overwhelming. Counselling and Psychotherapy can provide a safe and private space to explore the issues with someone who has enough distance from your life to be along side you whilst you find what it is that you need. I think people come to Counselling when they decide within themselves something in their life needs to change, be that an external change or a change in a way of feeling, I have a decades experience in building meaningful, containing, supportive relationships and can be alongside you whilst you find what it is that you need.

I am a very experienced and professional therapist with over twelve thousand client contact hours behind me in individual, couples and group work. I feel my experience coupled with my life experiences makes me the person and the therapist I am today. My training in the person-centred approach (three years) and in Transactional Analysis (seven years) together with continuing professional and personal development and supervision give me a strong theoretical and experiential focus to bring to my client work. I work very much in a relational way (research indicates that the therapeutic relationship is key to positive therapy outcomes)

Are you fed up with overthinking every interaction & conversation you have? Perhaps you’ve had enough of constantly feeling like nothing you do is ‘good enough’. Are your unhelpful behaviours & habits holding you back in life or in your relationships? Do you need a space to talk freely & openly about your thoughts, feelings & experiences whilst being truly heard in an emphatic and non judgemental way without anyone else’s opinions? You may have pain or trauma in your past that you’ve not yet felt safe to or confident to explore & tackle. Or be looking to proactively set some goals. You might be feeling lost & not sure what you need.

Obsessive-Compulsive (OCD) Counsellors

How long does OCD treatment take?

Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is often treated on a weekly or twice-weekly schedule, depending on symptom severity and the client’s preferences. Some clients may start to see a noticeable improvement in symptoms in as little as six weeks, but it’s also possible, especially in more severe cases, for treatment to take several months to a year before significant progress is made.

What happens if OCD is not treated?

Some people with OCD, especially those with mild symptoms, may find that they are able to adapt reasonably well to life with the condition, even if their symptoms never resolve completely. However, many people, particularly those whose symptoms are severe at the outset, find that their obsessions and compulsions grow more intrusive with time, making it harder to maintain relationships, hold down a job, or navigate the world successfully.

Are there medications for OCD?

Medication can be used to treat OCD. The class of drugs most often prescribed are selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors, or SSRIs, which include fluvoxamine, fluoxetine, and sertraline, among others. In cases of treatment-resistant OCD, other classes of medication, such as tricyclic antidepressants or atypical antipsychotics, may be prescribed. Medication is frequently used in conjunction with therapy.

Can OCD come back after treatment?

Yes. Major life transitions, periods of stress, or other factors can cause symptoms to return or, if they were never fully eradicated, to ramp back up in intensity. For some, these relapses are brief and do not require additional treatment; identifying specific triggers and practicing the skills learned in therapy can help speed their course. For others, returning to therapy for a brief period can help address the underlying stress and strengthen coping mechanisms.
