I offer a variety of therapeutic methods and modalities of delivering therapy such as Animal- Assisted Therapy (AAT) working with small pets, which has many therapeutic benefits that other modalities lack, Cognitive Based Therapy ( CBT ), Integrative therapy, online and telephone counselling and counselling that can take place in the comfort of your own home.
Anxiety, depression and other mental challenges can be debilitating. It's something that many of us live with each and every day and we need to find the best ways to deal with our emotions, what we are going through and how we react to certain situations. Being the best you is not easy, but you can do it. It is undoubtedly achievable no matter where you are in your life. Some may find difficulty showing up to their counselling sessions, some may think it's easier to talk online and some may find comfort with the presence of an animal in the room and even doing activities with the animal. Your needs are a priority.

Hi, I'm Laura, a CBT & EMDR Therapist & mother of three. I’m on a mission to empower mothers and remind them how important it is to nurture and care for themselves as well as their children. Focussing on mental health and wellbeing, I support mums and mums-to-be on their journey to and through motherhood. Whether it’s your first time or your fifth, bringing a baby into the world is a huge transition. Yes, it’s precious and beautiful, but it can be overwhelming and utterly soul-destroying at times. Wherever you are on your journey, and whatever you’re dealing with, I’m here to guide you through these feelings and out the other side.

Hi, I'm trained in Pluralistic counselling, Pluralistic Counselling recognises the value of other therapeutic approaches to help you make sense of the challenges you are facing, come have a quick chat and see if I'm a fit for you. It engages you, the client, in a shared decision-making process about the approaches that you would like to try, combining methods from different approaches into a coherent whole. This means that you are at the helm of your own therapeutic journey, both in the decision making process and the ways that we work together. Supported by being Polyvagal informed we can build a balance path for you to take.

Cognitive Behavioural (CBT) Counsellors

How does cognitive behavioural therapy work?

Cognitive behavioural therapy works by exploring how your thoughts affect your emotions and experiences. CBT helps you identify distortions in your thinking. For example, you may tend to jump to the worst case scenario (catastrophizing) or think in extremes (all-or-nothing thinking). A therapist can teach you how to push back against those thoughts to ultimately change your feelings and behavior for the better. They can also provide coping skills to better deal with stressors and challenges.

When do I know to seek treatment with cognitive behavioural therapy?

It’s reasonable to consider cognitive behavioural therapy if you struggle to manage difficult emotions or behaviors to such an extent that you are not getting the most out of life on a day-to-day basis. If you want a shorter term, concrete, skills-based approach, CBT is a great option. (By contrast, other types of therapy may devote more time to exploring your past and its effects.) The decision to seek CBT also depends on the condition you’re treating; CBT is an effective treatment for anxiety, depression, trauma, and many other disorders.

How can I find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else?

To find a cognitive behavioural therapist for someone else, you may want to begin by discussing the person’s problem, researching cognitive behavioural therapy, and assessing whether the approach is the right fit. You could then reach out to a few cognitive behavioral therapists in this directory, explain the scenario, have a consultation with those available, and determine who could be a good match.

Why is CBT such a popular form of therapy?

CBT has become a popular form of therapy because it is effective and accessible. Robust research has demonstrated that CBT is an effective treatment for many mental health conditions. And CBT can be learned in relatively few sessions, which means that many people can engage in the process, afford it, and see results quickly. It involves learning concrete skills such as disputing unhelpful thoughts; these skills can also be taught and spread widely.
