My name is Sarah and I am a qualified person centred counsellor. I have a favourite phrase; "Life isn't about waiting for the storm to pass. Its about learning to dance in the rain". Life is better when you can share it, learn from it and accept it. Some people rarely have the opportunity to experience a warm, trusting, empathic relationship, one in which they are not judged and one where they are heard. I offer my clients a safe environment to explore any issues that they feel are holding them back. I am committed to supporting my clients in finding the right path for them without being rejected or judged for their decisions.

I am experienced in working with adult survivors of abuse including sexual abuse, and I work sensitively, to keep you safe in the session, I would not expect you to share anything that would make you feel uncomfortable.
Are you feeling overwhelmed by stress, disconnected in your relationships, or stuck in unhelpful patterns of behaviour, always trying to please everyone yet ending up resentful and unseen? In our sessions, we’ll gently explore your childhood experiences to understand the roots of your thoughts and actions. While honouring your parents, we’ll acknowledge how their choices may have shaped your life today. Together, we’ll focus on what truly matters to you, whether that’s feeling less anxious, breaking free from the need to please others, or finding greater meaning in your life, work, and relationships.

I am a qualified integrative counsellor holding an MSc in Integrative Counselling, specialising in Gestalt and psychodynamic approaches. My approach is grounded in warmth, respect and curiosity. I focus on creating an environment where you feel genuinely supported and understood, safe enough to show up as yourself and share what’s going on in your life.

Children & Adolescent Counsellor. My passion is supporting children (5+), teens and young adults who may be struggling with anxiety, low self-esteem, grief, family changes, or difficulties at school. Young people often feel overwhelmed or misunderstood, and my aim is to provide them with a safe, creative, and understanding space where they can explore their feelings and develop healthier ways to cope. I also recognize the importance of the family system, and when helpful, I work with parents and careers to strengthen relationships and improve communication.

A lot of my work focuses on helping people heal from trauma, especially sexual abuse, and the many ways it can affect daily life, relationships, and self-worth by drawing from several approaches to create a safe, grounded space for reflection and growth.
My approach is collaborative and adaptable, creating a safe, inclusive space for reflection and growth. I utilise a mix of Compassion Focussed Therapy, CBT, Person-Centred, and Attachment Theory to create a unique combination to suit your needs; but please don't worry if you aren't familiar with these terms. We can explore this together.

Domestic Abuse Counsellors
What are the most effective ways to recover from domestic abuse?
Leaving an abusive relationship requires tremendous courage, so survivors in treatment should recognise that they have already completed the most important step. Still, the trauma of physical or emotional abuse can be difficult to process and overcome. Therapy can help survivors process trauma, grief, and difficult emotions, treat relevant mental health symptoms, and create a new framework for boundaries and relationships in the future. For some, support groups can also be an invaluable outlet for healing.

When should an individual seek help for domestic abuse?
Victims of intimate partner violence should seek help immediately. It can take substantial time, planning, energy, and courage to leave an abusive relationship, but starting the process—by seeking therapy, calling the domestic violence hotline, or simply confiding in a loved one—will help them get there. Those who have left abusive relationships but haven’t sought treatment can also greatly benefit from therapy to process and heal from the experience.

What are the consequences of staying in an abusive relationship?
Remaining in an abusive relationship has serious repercussions. In addition to the ongoing threat of physical danger and emotional abuse, research shows that intimate partner violence is associated with a range of mental health disorders including depression, post-traumatic stress disorder, anxiety, and substance abuse. Therefore it’s important for individuals in an abusive relationship to seek help as soon as possible.

How can you get domestic abuse treatment for someone else?
It can be very complicated to identify and leave an abusive relationship; barriers include the threat of violence, financial instability, and family pressures. Those concerned about a loved one in an abusive relationship should talk to them about the situation, provide them with resources such as the domestic violence hotline, and introduce the idea of seeing a therapist due to their concern for the person’s safety and well-being.
