Making the decision about coming to counselling can be quite daunting however more and more people are looking to therapists for support. It is important to choose a therapist that is right for you so I will give you as much information as possible to help you make an informed choice. I believe that when we have a better understanding of who we are/our patterns of behaviour then we can engage in healthier relationships, live autonomous lives and fulfil our potential.

My ideal clients for Creative and EMDR therapy are individuals who have experienced trauma. They may be struggling with symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), anxiety, depression, or other emotional challenges as a result of their trauma. Their needs are to find a safe and supportive space to process and heal from their traumatic experiences. They may be seeking relief from distressing symptoms, a greater sense of control over their emotions, and a desire to reclaim their lives from the impact of trauma. Their goals are to work through, reduce intense emotional reactions and develop healthier coping skills.

I currently offer therapy primarily online, with a limited number of in-person sessions available over the weekend.
“Crying helps me slow down and obsess over the weight of life’s problems.” It’s a line I often return to because it speaks to something many of us were never taught - that emotions aren’t something to hide or push through, but a way of understanding ourselves better. If this feels too close to home for you, you may be used to carrying a lot quietly. From the outside, you might seem "fine", while inside you feel anxious, disconnected or unsure who you’re allowed to be. Culture, invisible pressures, and past experiences may still shape you. Our work is about creating a space where you no longer have to carry everything on your own.

Life brings many challenges. You may be experiencing a range of issues; struggling to understand or come to terms with issues such as health, loss, trauma or family issues which can lead to uncomfortable feelings. Sometimes issues are complex and interlink into many areas of our lives creating anxiety, stress, depressed or grief. I have experience working with all these and the different ways they affect clients. Are difficult feelings affecting work, social and home life? Impacting on health or self esteem and self worth?

Sessions are available both in person and online.
I work with adults experiencing anxiety and depression, often rooted in relational trauma — including narcissistic, emotionally abusive or coercively controlling relationships — as well as people-pleasing patterns and dynamics where your needs have been sidelined. I’ll help you make sense of your experiences, recognise what you need, and stand your ground.

I completely understand how hard to can be to to schedule sessions in around other commitments such as work and childcare so I offer flexible sessions during the weekend and evenings to fit around work and family life, these can be together in person or remote over Zoom/phone, whichever you are most comfortable with.
Asking for support can sometimes be difficult, we worry about what people are going to think about us and how they will judge us, our issues may seem too big, too painful, too embarrassing, too weird or the opposite too small , too unimportant to be taken seriously. Those worries can hold you back from seeking support and living the life you want and deserve, I know, I was once there too. Its a scary step trusting someone with your inner most thoughts and feelings but together we can look at your present experience and explore them to see if there is any connection to the past, and identify any changes that can be made.

I offer a free 20-minute consultation, online or in person, to see whether we might be a good fit.
As a late-diagnosed AuDHD therapist, I have a shared understanding with neurodivergent clients, including ADHD and autism. I believe that therapy should feel like a safe and supportive place where you can be fully yourself. I am a BACP-registered psychotherapist and my approach is humanistic & integrative, meaning I bring together different ways of working to suit your individual needs. You might be seeking support through fear of what we cannot reach, burnout, unexpected changes or a sense of being stuck. You might notice patterns that keep repeating, emotions that feel too big, or a quiet longing for things to feel different.

I work Face to Face and online across the UK and Europe.
Welcome, my name is Julia and thank you for taking the time to drop by to learn a little more about me and how I may be able to help you to feel better about your life. It has been my experience that navigating our way through our lives is not always plain sailing and at times we may turn to unhelpful and self-destructive ways to see us through. Whether it is alcohol, drugs, shopping, surgery or unhealthy relationships we are trying to cope with deep unhappiness in the best way we can and as we get older those feelings and addictive behaviour can often get stronger and take us to dark places.

I offer in-person, telephone and online Zoom sessions for now.
Supporting all ages in navigating life's changes and self-esteem challenges. You might be feeling overwhelmed - juggling responsibilities, navigating relationships, or just carrying a constant undercurrent of anxiety or self-doubt. Maybe past experiences still affect you in ways you’re only beginning to notice. If you’re finding it hard to feel grounded or at ease, therapy can offer the space to pause, reflect, and reconnect. You don’t need to be in crisis to benefit from therapy. Sometimes, it’s simply about having a space where you can feel heard, understood, and supported as you make sense of what’s going on day-to-day.

Whatever you are going through in life, therapy can bring you relief, peace and make a positive difference to your life. Therapy provides a “safe” space for you to talk without judgement or criticism. It also offers the opportunity for you to work through your difficulties and experiences from the past. This can help you cope with the struggles you are facing today and work through fears and anxieties about the future.

I work both online and offer face to face sessions in Nottingham, from 10am - 7pm Monday-Saturday.
Hi I'm Maxine, my approach is straightforward, less woo - more you, using a range of therapeutic tools and honest conversation to help you find your true self. When anxiety, stress and low self esteem are running the show, it can feel exhausting just getting through the day. I work with teenagers and adults who want practical, down-to-earth support to understand their issues and find ways to feel calmer, more confident, and more in control. I’ve worked in adult social services, large urban secondary schools and in palliative care – you can be assured of a warm, confidential and empathic welcome at Wit & Wisdom Therapy.
