Hi there, welcome to my profile. You might have arrived here with a clear sense of what hurts, or are struggling to understand what is difficult. You may be lost, stuck, or scared. You might be going through an important transition in your life. You may be reading this under some distress and are considering taking the next step to work on that suffering. Perhaps you are experiencing oppressions that leave you feeling marginalised and worn down. You may face difficulties relating to neurodiversity. The above factors (amongst others) may contribute to a sense of feeling out of place, both within yourself and in relationships.

Life constantly reminds us that we don't know what's coming; we are multifaceted, complex beings and we cannot always face the things we need to, on our own. We all have our individual histories, and sometimes we need to look at this to help with how we are dealing with the world today. It is my intention to help you find the best way forward for you, using integrative therapeutic methods in a confidential, warm, non-judgemental, authentic, and safe space. If you are asking yourself questions such as why is this happening, how did I get here, why me, what do I do now?, then please reach out to someone who might be able to help.

Regardless of our background we all go through difficult moments in our lives, leaving us overwhelmed and often struggling with feelings that may be hard to understand. It could be because life events are hard to overcome, or you feel exploited and disempowered and would like that to change. Maybe you are sexually unfulfilled or dealing with sexual problems. It could be that you want to build the confidence to come out of the closet or just to find your sexual self and enjoy the intimacy you desire in your romantic relationships. Whatever the reason is that brings you to this point - it is ok to look for someone to talk to.

You are the only person who knows exactly how you feel, which means, you are the only one who knows when something is wrong. When something has happened, big or small, but enough to create feelings of anxiety, stress and depression, it can lead us to feeling isolated and alone. There is a human need to want to get back to that balance of a happy life and that change can only happen when you know and understand what is wrong and why. Sometimes we get so overwhelmed by a situation, current or historical, we cant seem to find a way out. But balance is achievable again, but sometimes we just need a little support to help us get there.

This can have a significant impact on families, and parents may be unsure how to adapt their response.
I specialise in understanding emotional and behavioural difficulties in neurodivergent young people from a developmental and relational perspective. I'm particularly interested in working with parents/carers, by helping them to meet their own needs, and foster the different skills needed to raise a child with developmental differences.

Family Therapy Counsellors
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
