The relationship we build with each other will form an important part of the therapy, which is why it is necessary for us to have a telephone conversation so we can both decide if we are the right fit for each other.
A very warm welcome. You may be considering some professional support to help you with life's challenges. I know life can be tough at times for a variety of reasons, and we can find ourselves feeling out of control and under pressure, leaving us struggling and feeling lost, not knowing who to turn to for help and support. It may help you to share your thoughts and feelings, and in doing so you will be positioning yourself in the direction of potential growth, healing and change, which can help you manage your challenges and day to day life.

I'm an integrative humanistic counsellor and I will provide an environment that helps you feel safe, contained and able to trust in me to help you explore everything that makes you who you are and your relationship to the world around you.
I provide a safe and confidential space for you to talk through whatever brings you to counselling. I believe that you have the full potential to overcome any emotional challenges you may be facing and that together we can untangle the busyness of your thoughts and make sense of everything. With growing awareness comes the element of choice - which in turn will open up a life you want to live. You may have a personal goal that you want to achieve from the sessions or it may just be about having a space to say things out loud and start to own how you are feeling. I will always be led by the client as you are the expert of you.

We might look at relationship patterns through out your life and help you gain awareness and understanding of how these play a part in your mental wellbeing.
Are you struggling with big emotions? Fear, pain, or maybe you feel empty, numb and unable to get going? Do you feel trapped by your relationships, circumstances or suffer with a lack of confidence to make a change? You may be grieving the loss of an important person in your life. Throughout our lives we have many ups and downs, losses and big changes. Sometimes we can feel alone in our problems. You might feel unable to share some of the thoughts and feelings that you’re having with others due to feeling that you may be criticised, ridiculed or misunderstood. Depression can make us feel disconnected from others and alone in life.

Sometimes issues are complex and interlink into many areas of our lives creating anxiety, stress, depressed or grief. I have experience working with all these and the different ways they affect clients. Are difficult feelings affecting work, social and home life? Impacting on health or self esteem and self worth?

Are you feeling lost or out of sorts? Life can be hard and this is where counselling can play a pivotal role in turning your life around. No one should be dealing with issues alone. Standing beside you, developing a trusting relationship where you feel at ease and able to share in a place of safety without judgements or demands is an important starting point. People don’t need to be in crisis or at breaking point to have therapy. It is about empowerment for you to lead the life you want. The outcome being that you have a strong mental platform and resources to facilitate growth.

I work with a range of issues and have particular experience in bereavement, depression, and relationship problems.
In a world where people seem more connected to their phones than each other, it's rare to find someone who has dedicated time and space just for you. Someone willing to walk alongside you for as long as you need to figure things out, digest what has happened, and help you learn about yourself in the process. Perhaps you’ve reached a crisis point in your life, and don’t know where else to turn? Maybe you’ve been out-of-sorts for a while, and need some help to figure out what is going on? Or perhaps you're here because you want to understand yourself better and how you relate to others?

Often people’s perception of the therapy can be one of fear, vulnerability and weakness however once engaged I aim to offer a nurturing, supportive and non-judgemental environment which focuses on the therapeutic relationship to help work through any difficulties you may be facing and surprisingly this can be through love and laughter.
Making the decision about coming to counselling can be quite daunting however more and more people are looking to therapists for support. It is important to choose a therapist that is right for you so I will give you as much information as possible to help you make an informed choice. I believe that when we have a better understanding of who we are/our patterns of behaviour then we can engage in healthier relationships, live autonomous lives and fulfil our potential.

I work online using Skype or Zoom to support clients who require assistance with their mental health. The ultimate aim will be to achieve a better quality of life where increased self awareness is used to navigate various life challenges. The challenges could be coming to terms with a life threatening illness such as cancer, the breakdown of a relationship , anxiety, work related stress or depression. Being able to be free to express your thoughts and feelings, without being judged, to an impartial person, such as a counsellor can help you cope better.

I believe that we have the capacity to live fulfilling lives. However, we can get stuck in patterns of behaving, responding and relating that get in the way of us leading the lives we would like to lead. Often, we just keep going, even if we feel unease, depression or anxiety. However, our lives can be disrupted by a crisis or change, such as work problems or loss of employment, relationship issues or breakdown, bereavement, questioning our sense of purpose, becoming parents, and many other stressors and events that happen throughout life. At such times, we may suddenly find ourselves unable to manage.

One size does not fit all! I work to build a therapeutic relationship so we can work together with trust, care and safety.
Sometimes life can be challenging and we find ourselves feeling overwhelmed or lost in thoughts. Events happen, people change or we lose things that are dear to us. Anxiety, depression, worry, fear, anger, stress, to name a few, can trouble us and make us feel like we are not in the place we wish to be. Having an understanding of ourselves and showing ourselves compassion can help us to see clearer and start a new outlook on life. Past experiences, trauma and other difficulties can be safely explored through therapy. Maybe you need a helping hand and a safe place to explore? I can help.

Couples Counselling

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
